Waved Delica hard to open?

Just got my first Spyderco with the Emerson Wave feature. I was a bit surprised at how stiff the action on this knife is. It's fine when using the wave feature, but you have to take pretty hefty swing to flip it open like most Spyderco knives. Anybody else have this issue? Any tips on cheating the break in process?

The blade on the waved Delica is pretty short, and doesn't have much weight to it, so trying to flick it open is going to be good exercise for your arms. It can be done, but it's not easy. As long as the wave works, I wouldn't bother with it, but if you want to be able to flick the knife open, loosen the pivot a little bit.

Even so, the pressure the lockbar puts on the tang will still retard flicking. This is why the liner and compression lock Spydercos are, IMO, easier to flick.

As far as cheating the process, perhaps "Spyderdropping" it will help.

Nope, mine is light and smooth.
You might adjust the pivot pin to get the best results.
First loosen both the blade pivot and the lockbar pivot.
Then fasten the blade pivot until there is no more horizontal play between the blade and the handle, but only just.
Finaly tighten the lockbar pivot but only just, if you overdo it you squeeze the handle to much and create play in the pivot area.
Torx keys 9 and 6 is all you need.
Good luck.

Spydies Often In my experience require a bit of working to loosen up, flicking it open, and closed while stoped at red lights (be carful who is watching) or while whatching tv or reading, (This is also known as Knifesterbating)

I find that spidies smooth out a good deal after a short while of doing this, but unlike other knives, dont tend to get too loose.
