It is an exclusive to Self Defense Gear - the "owner" of Self Defense Forums"

Anybody notice the subtle differences in this model? Hollow ground for one thing. Also the "cusp" behind the Spyderhole has a more comfortable looking profile and appears to be grooved. Hmmmm....

Too bad SDF is charging retail for these. That, along with the fact there's almost no advertising/promotion will probably add up to poor sales.

The price is a little more than the MSRP for a regular Endura. However, I personally don't think it's an unreasonable price for this model. I ordered mine soon after the announcement came out.

You have to consider the tooling cost to produce a new blade design, plus the royalty to Emerson Knives for use of the wave function, and write that off on a relatively small run of 500 knives.

I hope they sell out! Especially because I like this type of company/company collaboration where each gets full credit, recognition, and payment for the intellectual property they contribute.

Well done by all parties involved!

I'd be interested in hearing your opinions on it, David. Especially on how well the wave feature works.

Mark,

Thanks for bringing this up. I saw the possibility of this mentioned on Self Defense Forums some time back but haven't kept up with it.

I just placed my order.

What a great knife: the Wave, with Spyderco quality and materials - and, best of all, a standard "V" edge grind (I assume?).

Looks great! Myself and some of the guys on britishblades are trying to organise a group buy on this knife. The limit of 2 per person might be a problem though...

i wonder why of all the spydies to wave they wave an FRN endura? i guess its one of the big sellers in the spydie family, but i would have preffered a waved millie, or manix, or ATR, or..........

sure they will sell though, just an odd choice imho.

It seems it was chosen because the Endura was the model that most people were "waving" themselves using a Dremel tool. I think it was the combination of a relatively low cost knfe and the high hump over the hole that affected people's choice of which knife to take their Dremel to. I've seen a pic of a "home waved" Civilian but I sure couldn't bring myself to do that to a Civi. Also, adding the retooling and "wave" licencing fees to a higher priced knife might make the model less marketable.

The Spyderco Endura has been one of the most popular "sleeper" self defense/ martial arts folders for years. It's light, strong, doesn't print as a weapon in the pocket, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, so if you lose it, you're not going to have to spend a ton to replace it. Also, I think the Endura was a very wise choice for the addition of the "wave" feature, as it won't compete with Emerson's price point for his "waved" knives.

:)

I just found out about it 5 minutes ago and immediately whipped out the credit card. It's a limited edition Endura, of course I must have it! I seriously considered ordering their limit of 2 per customer, bc it's one of those knives that I'll love, carry, use, and love some more, and if anything ever happens to it, very hard to replace. But, it's another $80, doesn't seem like much, but it adds up. I'll wait until it arrives, then consider a second. :D

one other point is that on an endura ya cant adjust the pivot pin tension w/the FRN frame, unless rather than a pin they do have a screw, i have a few waved EKI's and ya do have to adjust that occasionally, they want to get too loose and try and open in the pocket, i guess they could just make it pretty tight but, still think it would work better on a ti frame, imho.

like i said though am sure they will sell.

I feel that the Endura is less likely to open accidentally due to its mid-lock construction. That being said, my own homemade waved Endura tends to hook on the pocket even if I'm merely taking it out for a traditional opening. It's probably just a matter of practice.

I have ordered two of the new waved Enduras, and I expect them today. I can vouch for the opening, especially in the pikal style. Very effective, if only to impress your friends. Living in an area with a violent crime rate of near zero, I can only justify this newest purchase for its "cool" factor, and possible collector value. But who knows? That day may come for any of us, our own Nacht ob die Langen Messer.

I posted some info on my new waved Endura on the main Blade Discussion Forum.

I like it.

I got my waved Endura a few days ago. Very nicely done. The larger wave makes opening in reverse grip pretty easy and the "standard opening" is awesome. This is a great knife and well worth paying (ugh!) retail for. You won't here me say that often! From what I understand, there were only 500 made...

Mine just arrived! Wow, I love it! Why aren't all Endura's built to this level of quality? A rounded spine for god sake, that's CRK style!

And that wave! Holy crap that's fun! I was standing next to my mom and freaked the crap out of her when I pulled it of my pocket!

I think I need another one since there's only 500...
