Just finished this up a few minutes ago...

For comparison, here's what it looks like out of the box:

The Axis AFCK is almost perfect, but it has four problems:
1. No recurve
2. No wave
3. No hidden release DA
4. Would be better with thumb studs

Problem 3 will probably not be fixed on mine, but I can live with that.
Problem 4 might get fixed one of these days.

Problems 1 and 2 got fixed today.

Did it all with a Dremel, took a few hours. It's a little bit harder to open quickly one handed right now, but I'll probably get used to it. Waves open perfectly. Is much smoother than before, but harder to snap open due to the reduced blade weight. Since I was already in there grinding in the recurve, I took the opportunity to cut the bevels way down to maybe 10 degrees per side throughout the entire length of the blade, then put the edge on at 17 degrees. The cutting improvement with the thinner edge and recurve is incredible. It didn't get too hot while grinding away steel, but when I switched to the fiberglass cut-off wheel to make the wave, it got way hot real fast. I'd have to cut for 4 seconds and dunk it in water. Took a while to do it that way, but it was worth it. Only Dremelled my hand once, and it was very minor. Already cut myself with the blade, but not badly.

The standard AFCK, in all it's versions, it, IMO, a very attractive knife; I ain't gonna lie to you guys, this thing's hideous.
It's ugly as sin, but it works like a charm and cuts like a demon.

I'll try to come back when I get some more time tonight or tomorrow and give more details.

I'm still trying to get a good scan, this is the best I can come up with for now:

(If anyone's got tips on how I can get a better image with a scanner & Photoshop let me know.)

Here it is:

OH MY, thats an ugly knife...

looks good. i had a delica made up like that a while ago, but it is now with someone else.

I dislike the axis lock cause i do not like springs that can fail w/o warning. small internal metal parts that i can not inspect for wear make me nervous.

If it works for you, I'm happy for you, but let me say again, that is a butt ugly knife.

Well Jason,
I congratulate you on making your knife fit your needs. Joe T. was the first person that I read that had written of the incredible performance gains that come from proper edge geometery. He is right on.

I expect that you'll be taking quite a bit of flak for what some people will scream is copy right infringement. I won't touch that subject, there are enough self appointed I-Prop experts here.

that being said, that thing is UGLY.

Take care,
Chad

Yep, that's butt ugly alright.

There would be no patent issues with this knife as what was done was done for his own personal use.

Did I say that I thought that knife was really ugly?

Prescan your knife, then find “Options” in your TWAIN driver, go “Advanced”, then “Histogram” and adjust prescaned image as long as you will see what you do want to show.

No comments on the knife, sorry...

Sorry, with a knife that fugly there is nothing you can do :p

Ok, that's pretty weird looking glad it works for you. Check and see if its covered uder the life time warrenty:D

After much playing with the computer I'v got another scan that might show it better. If you think this thing is ugly you should see it in person!

I see Jason in a dark room, wringing his hands, muttering "They laughed at me, but I showed them who the true genius is. Fools! I'll crush you all!"

If it works for you I guess it is good. But like Boink said ...
I don't want my AFCK to look like that, when I get it that is:D
