I see the first Axis bottle opener.
And I got the second!!!!
What the F***?!!! D***, d***, double d***!!! I htought I was gonna be FIRST!
Medusaoblongata, that is downright CREEPY!! Not the knife, but the fact that essentially you and I were doing the same damn thing at practically the same time, but on two different axis-locking knives. I modified my BM 720 this very day, after having a brain-storm (some might say fart?).
The intention with mine was to make it have a cap-lifter on the spine; I didn't realize how well it waved until I pulled it out of my pocket later and it was open.
Mine still has the original blade planform and edge geometry, although the heat treat may have suffered a little. But, it being 154CM with the high molybdemum content, I'm hoping not. I tried to be very careful and patient with the cuts, and I cooled it in ice when it started to get hot to the touch. Actually, I ended up near the end just putting it in the freezer for about 5 minutes, and then dremeling until it got warm again. Oh well, if the heat treat is screwed, it will still be better than the blade on my SAK, I would BET!
Nice recurve, MO. But, gotta add... yours IS uglier than my 720.
{edited for language, and to add:
You could even do it with a 710, putting the hook where the thumbstuds are, with a section of the spine angled down to meet it.
That is essentially just what I did with my 720. It looks better, and works great for a cap-lifter. You probably have to pull it to the rear more than MO's or the WAVE to be reliable as a blade-opening method. But I didn't do the mod for that reason, so it's not a big deal. In fact, I did the mod because I had already drilled out the stud holes a little oversize, because I hate thumb studs. But that wasn't working quite like I wanted, so in a feverish nightmare (
), I thought up the cap-lifter mod, after seeing a knife with a cap-lifter on its spine over on the Usual Suspects Net forums.}
