Just wanted to change the subject and try out a new photo hosting site. I do not think you have to be a member to view. Let me know if that is so.

Imperial Frontier Knives

From the old Imperial Knife Associated Companies. Several years ago I contacted Tim Faust and he gave me a little information on these (I found out later our UHFan (Ms. Chase) actually did the work). So I picked up one or two and then three and four...

When I took these photos I forgot about the nice commemoratives that I have stashed away in their original boxes. I give these away constantly, to anyone needing a good knife. But there seems to be an unending supply out there.

Phil

Very nice pictures, Phil. You are quite a collector of cool knives. :)
I can proudly say I was one of the lucky one's to whom Phil gifted a Frontier Double Eagle. What a great knife.

Bill

...and in return, Bill sent me a beautiful 'genuine bone' Case texas toothpick.

The second page of the little album (what do you guys think of the photo service there- it's free?) shows a Schrade-Frontier. The Bass scrimshaw that has the proper 'Schrade Scrimshaw' main blade etch, but that same blade has the 'Fontier' tang stamping.

A friend here has emailed me that a whole batch of these knives... New Old stock, will probably soon be on the market. Very interesting, so it was worthwhile to me to bring this subject up again.

Phil

Nice Job!!! Great collection! Are you still lacking any, or is it now complete?

Nice knives, nice displays, nice pictures, nice site (no trouble viewing and cool slide show feature), thanks for showing.

Phil, you and other guys here may consider getting together, taking a bunch of pictures and making a book or CD.- "The Uncle Henry Lost Souls Collection". LT has experience on that and could also put in some stories, Debbie could write some info and prologue, Bill can put in a few jokes, Steve and his dad can add some anecdotes, I don´t have much in knives or comments but could do a Spanish translation.

Luis

I think you are onto something, Luis. And I think everyone here could contribute. What would be cool would be the real 'lost souls', say those one of a kinds from the factory, or smaller limited editons, under a hundred knives or something like that.

Debbie, my Frontier (please note when I refer to 'Frontiers', I'm talking the original ones, from '77 to 84--- not the Ireland made ones, or the post '85 knives) collection will never be complete. And I am fine with that. As stated above, I constantly give these away... it is amazing how many men-- and women-- don't carry a knife. That most basic human tool.

I am seeking the Davy Crocket and Daniel Boone big folding hunters (the traditional hunter, not lockbacks). Also, I am seeking- always- the unusual. In my little photo album I showed a Schrade Scrimshaw with a Frontier blade tang mark. Here I show a Frontier (powderhorn shield) with a Schrade tang mark. I like knives with questions, more questions than answers. Like in one of my displays, I have a small red handled lockback. Not one of the official colors/handles, which were 'Powderhorn Stag', 'Ol' Ivory', 'Gunpowder Black', 'Sundown Yellow' and the laminated hardwood of the 'Double Eagles'. What kinda special order from the factory was it? For who? Will I find other colors someday?

These are top quality knives, but sell for cheap now. They will never be worth a whole lot of money, but the pleasure I get from finding a new-- unusual one, can't be bought.

Thanks for your comments, all. Any of you ever see an interesting one of these, tell me about it.

Luis, you are selling yourself short. We have seen your work, and you are very multitalented, of course. But, I agree, a Spanish version would be nice. :)
Perhaps you would be willing to knit us some Commemorative socks? You know, like "Uncle Henry's Lost SOLES ".....maybe only one for each of us.....if we ever meet up we could use it as identification. :D

Bill

"Uncle Henry's lost soles"....I like it!!!

Phil: I hate to disappoint you, and maybe it won't, but the Frontier shown in your picture was more than likely a repair. If I had to guess, it was sent in for repairs, and the only blades that they still had to fit it was a model #881 Schrade blade. They probably replaced the handles with current material too and just reglued the shield. Use to happen all the time, after Imperial closed their doors.

Damn I love knowledge like that your getting as good a Dave S. Thankyou that is the kind of info I have chased for many years. Little bits that close the gaps. I have always said that many of the unusual finds regarding Schrade happened for a mulitude of reasons finding out what could have happened in a specific instance is great. Thankyou Lt.

Debbie... Disappointed? Not in the least! By making this post, and your answering it, I've gained something more valuable than the knife... which is knowledge. Thank you! An interesting tidbit, and makes the knife all the more interesting. So... Even after Imperial closed their doors, Schrade continued to honor that company's "25 year warranty", or would at least do a repair for an Imperial customer. UFan.. do us a favor, PLEASE. Even when you do land another job, don't leave us, huh?

As I wrote, this is not an expensive knife, but interesing, and high quality. An abundence of different models, many advertisers, and some quirky ones. A perfect little inexpensive sideline to my more serious colllecting of Texas toothpicks and military knives.

Anyone else have an interest in these, I have a couple of color catalogs I'd make copies for you.

Phil

Just got an mail from one of our schrade collectors that he'd like copies. Anyone else before I go to the copy center?

I have to say...Schrade was GREAT at Customer Service. Because they had repair people who had been there for 30+ years, they had great pride in what they did. You could just about see the tears in their eyes, when someone who obviously had a Schrade for many many years would send it in to be reconditioned. Even though they couldn't always do it like original, they did their best to do it perfect (even for Imperial, since it reflected on them), and they were suckers for a great story. If guys sent back their discontinued trusty "old companions" along with a story of how that knife served him for the last number of years, our guys just ate it up. It was like family.

In all my years of owning and using Schrade products, I only sent one knife back for repair. One of my OT fixed blades lost the Old Timer shield from the scales. They replaced the lost shield and cleaned and sharpened the knife before returning it to me. I was charged only the postage.

While I have lost a number of Uncle Henry's over the years, I was never quite able to bring myself to take advantage of their "Loss Warranty". Just something about holding Schrade responsible for my forgetfulness that I couldn't do. I am sure that there were plenty who tried to scam this policy though.

Phil, I'd like some copies of the material, if it's not a bother. I'd gladly reimburse you as well.

Thank you,
Bill
