The woman that does our taxes is also an auctioneer. A 90 year old local

man, came to her this past January asking her to auction his house and belongings.

He had, with him, a cardboard box containing an assortment of knife making

materials, along with a ringed binder that contained drawings of knives.

He asked her if she knew anyone that made knives. She told him that she

did know someone and that I would be in to have my taxes done in March.

He asked her to give me the cardboard box.

There were only a few materials along with the ringed binder containing his drawings.

Lying on the bottom of the cardboard box was this catalog, dated 1973,

with the name; Wayne Goddard on the heading.

Mr. Goddard has come a long way since this catalog was printed.

I wonder if the prices quoted are still good. he he

And 1973 is already 600 knives into his career it says? Wow.

What a cool piece of memorabilia, Fred! How kind of the elder to pass it on....

I love stories like this. What a great piece of knife making history. Lucky dog!:p

Fred, Thats Great! I'm going to send him this link. I have gotten to know Wayne quite well over the last few years. I bet he can tell you where everyone of his knives went, the price, dates they were made and delivered beside what was used.

Fred, thanks for posting that. It's a nice trip down memory lane. Can you find out the name of the man who had the catalog? It was a small world back then and I might know him.

My first catalogs were pretty crude but brought in more work than I could keep up with. When I joined the Guild in 1972 there was some question about the quality of my catalogs but the old members present, Bill Moran for one, made it clear that they weren't going to regulate the quality of the catalogs that Guild members put out. I did mail a couple of photos along with the quick copies. I never did have a "real" catalog, always had them done on quick copies from my handmade original. I've got a good collection of them.

By time a maker has a catalog printed the info is often outdated. Many have gone to a folder type thing with an insert for every knife they offer and a separate price list so it can be updated economically.

Wayne,

I am interested in who the gentleman is, who so kindly passed these items along to me. I do know that he owned a shopping center, north of
of me a couple of miles.
I will investigate this and let you know what I find out.

Thanks for passing this along to Mr, Goddard.

That is a very, very cool piece of knifemaking history.

Mr. Goddard, may I humbly say you have done as much for the art, science and pure enjoyment of knifemaking as any man around. Thank you kindly for sharing your work and expertise with so many of us over the years! I sincerely hope you realize how much we appreciate you and your contributions to the field.

What a cool catalog! I own a small WG hatchet with a leather case and I love the lines of it. It goes well with a photo I have of a wooden 2X4 anvil base with the WG logo burned into it- at the ABS school. For knife fans, Mr. Goddard is a true celeb!!

Blueline :)
