Ways to make a fire. Let's do a list.

Here are two of the most obscure I know (sorry, no pictures).

Take a non-lubricated condom (no it's not a joke) and fill it partially with water. Knot it and force the water to the tip. You will end up with a transparent, liquid-filled sphere. Use it just as you would a magnifying glass.

In winter, if close to a frozen river or creek (ice from a river or creek is better than from a lake because you can get a more manageable thickness), cut a piece of ice (about twice the size of your fist will do). Smooth it some with your knife and shape it into a lens about 2" thick (both sides slightly convexed) and smooth it with your hands. Use it as you would a magnifying glass.

I'm big into friction fires, and I developed a method called the Lazyman Firedrill. My friends ask why I don't use a lighter, I guess I just like roughing it.

(Honestly, am I the only one that thought this would be fun to try?)

Tried it with a dremel tool....:D

I'm more of a flint and steel, with wood scapings.. It's about the same as using jute or cedar bark...

Lots of good suggestions in here.

I ordered a 7x10" Fresnel lens (a pocket one as well) and easily lit up a 4" x 1/2" x 1/2" chunk of fatwood. Smoke was instantaneous and fire ignition came about 8-10 seconds later. I was pretty amazed at the focal power of that lens in sunlight.

Won't work too well at night though...

:D

Fly a kite during a storm? J/K

How about adding all of the types of tender to the spark methods? Char cloth, hand sanitizer, etc. would be examples.

Just note the rod is glued to the bar and as I found out, will pop right off. I found both peices and was able to get fire, but decided not to trust it after that. Put a rubber band around it or carry it inside something.

Bill, that's almost as good as one of my hunting pals. He brings his big propane torch (It has a propane can for a gas grill and a hose about 10 feet with a huge wand on it) for starting fires. He throws full size logs on there, gives it a shot of that torch and away we go. :D

His thought process, and I quote, "I don't have time to f@%! around with that BS." :D

Isn't that known to those in the know as the Bear Grylls method?
