Ways to remove sap?

The petroleum solvents we have described so far are not going to have much effect on the baked powder coating on your Busse knife. Something stronger, like chlorinated solvent (some brake cleaners) and lacquer thinner could hurt the coating if left on too long.

Thank you very much for the futher clarification. The c-solvents, and lacquer thinner I would not use, I remember my early house painting days, but WD-40, Kerosene, and the likes I would use. I remember my Grandad putting kerosene on all his farm tools,(axes, whip saws, anything that went into wood) when he would clean-em up.
 
You might try WD-40. It's not my favorite lubricant or rust protectant, but it's the best goop remover I've found.
