WD-40 on Fixed blades OK?

Man, I've been trying to order flitz from their site for three months. The shopping cart is terminally screwed up.

It's too expensive from them anyways. You can buy MAAS polish from Wal-Mart in the cleaning section, for around $3.

Iosso also makes a polishing creme that supposidly protects metal.

Lots of guys have used chrome polish and car wax with good results. Cheap, too.

Anyone who would like to try the MAAS polish, and can't get it anywhere, let me know. I have two extra tubes, and I'll ship you one for $4 to cover Priority shipping.

Cheers,
Clayton

I have been testing Corrosion X for three years. I've used it on all types of firearms and machinery. It is an excellent product, actually one of the best lubricant protectants available. The company is a pleasure to deal with, and will ship you a sample along with some tech. info. if you ask nicely :) . The only downside is the price.

Here's a post I made on another thread here:

FWIW, I have been testing lubes on knives and guns of all types for many years, and after alot of research I have found the following products to be the best performers(no order):

Oils/CLP-type products:
1.Break-Free CLP
2.Muscle Products Corp./Shooters Choice FP-10
3.Eezox
4.G96 Gun Treatment
5.Corrosion X

Greases:
1.Tetra Gun grease
2.Milcomm TW-25B
3.Muscle Products Corp. PL-10 grease

For great prices on Break-Free and lots of other stuff, try www.midsouthshooterssupply.com

Keep in mind that rust is always, regardless of the steel, of more concern than wear. You will most likely never wear out a knife or gun action, but you will encounter corrosion.

Clayton

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I am going to try Break Free CLP. I cleaned off blood from an uncoated D-2 steel knife, with handi wipes. They have an alcohol in them. Gets off the blood etc., as I did not want to stain it after dressing out a deer. For the blood it worked great, but I must not have let it quite dry before it went into the sheath and within 30 minutes I noticed rust specks. Now its clean and coat on the spot.
I am sure the wipes took off all the oil on it, but thought the alcohhol stuff whould dry too quick to rust it. Not the case in the sheath I guess.
