WD40 for preventing rust

I just got a laugh. 3-in-1 is owned by WD-40. Says so right on the bottle.

But they are different products, it says right on the bottles.

If you really want to get technical, WD40 (aerosol) is petroleum distillates, CO2 and some non-toxic stuff they don't have to claim on SDS while 3in1 is Severely Hydrotreated Heavy Naphthenic Oil, naphtha, and non-toxic additives. 3in1 appears to be less toxic than WD-40 when comparing SDS's.

I know some older people who swear by rubbing WD-40 on sore joints. Not my cup of mildly caffeinated brewed beverage, but they say it really works. Guess the petroleum distillates evaporate out while the denatured mineral spirits absorb in at the same time. Maybe? Sounds logical, but what do I know? I know I have never heard of anyone using 3-1 for the same purpose.

Doesn't sound very effective. I will stick with equine liniment.

I got a kick out of that too! Why compete when you can merely buy out your competitor and make it appear that there are still two brands.
