we are here. Dop Parrish

Hi Don and Kristy (his daughter),

It was mentioned here before that you guys are really welcome to Bladeforums and you probably have something to contribute. And I hope it is MORE than just a link to the purchase of your knives.

Bladeforums is a discussion forum, where we talk about our knives, learn about our knives, and learn about the PEOPLE who are involved in the process.

If you are unfamiliar with BladeForums or the internet in general, I suggest you sit down and spend some time reading through the posts to see how the interactions are handled.

A knifemaker is a highly regarded person around these parts. But not always. Your reputation is based off of your communication skills as well as your work. I have found there are HUNDREDS of great makers who post on these forums, and you really need to be aware of how you conduct yourself to rise among them.

Here is the 'but' in my point: I have seen about 10 posts of an exuberance to show your work, all with, language, spelling, and punctuation befitting a fourth grader. Sorry, but I am calling it as I see it. (and if Kristy is in fourth grade, great! But Don, that won't help your status.)

Thank you for upgrading to the highest level of the membership. What is most important is conduct and perception. I look forward to the posts with photos. Please go to the Support Forum to test post trials before starting random incomplete posts in a high traffic forum.

I wish you the best. Really.

Coop

A lot of potential customers hang out here.

This would be an avenue for you to put forth your best image to the public.

Right now, it is looking pretty bad.

STOP, figure out what you are doing, and proceed foward properly.

Most people don't get a second chance for a first impression.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

yes, not to harsh out on you too much for obvious enthusiasm. But you might like to read some other posts, especially in the maker's section, to get a sense of the culture here so that you can present yourself most effectively. Then put together a solid post, review it before you post it, add some nice pics and/or a link to your website, and things should get rolling for you. :D

yes verbage is important.was up all night reading and trying to get this.Sorry for irratation.was typing in a hurry, sleepy and just frustruated.I'll get it. I have read and read and I'm always told when I try to post everything (file, pic) too big.Thank you for your frankness I like that.More people need that.So NO MORE NOTHING till I get it right

Well then, your file IS too big then. You've got go through the learning curve of how to size down / compress your images, or how to link to photobucket etc, or get someone to help you do this (spelled "a teenager" LOL) who already knows that stuff. It's not hard, but it's very hard if it's all new to you.

We've all learned on our own time, it's a vital skill these days, fun too once you hack through the weeds.

PS, you can hit "preview" instead of "submit" when posting and verify for yourself that your photo came through ok, that your spelling is where you want it etc before committing a post, that way you can kill it if it ain't workin', and spare people from opening up an "empty post". You can also go back and edit if you posted a trainwreck, or nuke the title and text and ask for moderator deletion if it's a trainwreck etc.

Can we get all these posts, 4 of them, consolidated and moved to the correct forum?

Well put, Coop. I tried but...

"I dont know if I am missing something or what but where is your website displaying your knives?"

"Vaporware"...

Good idea on consolidating the "it's coming!" postings...

Don't worry about it Don. Iv'e been flamed several times on this forum for my spelling. For what it's worth. I'm a col. grad. Just have deslexia. Could care less. Several of the guy's giving me a hard time have several words in their kind remarks misspelled as well, I'm just not rude enough to call them on it. At any rate, Hi! We talked many years ago when I still worked for Bob Schrimsher. The First Knife making supply in the U.S.. Between The two of us we've been making knives longer than of these folks on Blade Forums put together. Heee! Heee! Welcome. Mike Lovett http://home.earthlink.net/~michaellovett/ :D

Nice work, Don. The internet is yet ANOTHER skill set you need to learn as a *current* successful maker.

Next try your hand at photography.... ;)
