We are investing in the ERU. We have upgraded our 3 axis CNC engraving machine. We installed a high speed spindle [10,000 rpm] and high speed teflon coated screws and upgraded the backlash system. The result is faster more accurate production. This has allowed us to lower the price by almost 20%.

Each ERU sharpener comes with a photo of the actual calibration, which shows the position of the indicator when set at 30 degrees using a machined 30 degree wedge. This gives the user a setting that is accurate to within 1 degree or less. Its a great tool to use to find the actual edge angle of your knife as well as keeping the edge sharp

The ERU field sharpener is the most precise sharpener on the market today. infinitely adjustable between 12 and 40 degrees and it fits in the palm of your hand.

They come with an alignment pin, a set of 8 degree wedges to use with your sharpening stone or diamond plate, to help in producing a truly flat edge, along with a hand stitched leather sheath.

They are 62.50 shipped conus.

Take time to watch the DVD, I think it explains pretty well, how it works and why it works so well. You would never believe a "V" style sharpener could do what this tool does.

Send me a PM if interested. I ship next day.

Just picked up a ERU this week. It is everything Fred says it is. Precise. Very well made. Easy to use. Effective. I have never been able to get any of my knives to slice newsprint/phonebook paper in both directions (with/against the grain) because I have the devil of a time removing a wire edge, but they do now. Some still need a bit of refinement, but I sorta got carried away tuning every knife in the house. ;)

The ERU is not intended to be used as a reprofiling device, though for small angle changes on small blades it would do it if you wanted to take the time. The ERU requires a light touch to work properly (like many other sharpening tools). I found that the weight of the knife was usually enough pressure (except for really light blades like a small paring knife etc.).

Fred isn't kidding when he says in the video that you can feel the edge being refined. You can hear it as well. Very satisfying feeling. This effect will be less pronounced if you put a high polish on your edges I suspect, but since I've never polished an edge I wouldn't know. I believe (and it's just that- an unsubstantiated belief) that using the ERU to put a micro bevel on a highly polished edge would give the edge a bit of toothiness for those seeking such on a high-polish edge. A couple of pulls through the ERU would do it.

The ERU will be a great companion piece to my Wicked Edge as both allow precise angle control. They complement each other perfectly.

Lastly, I want to state that I don't work for Fred, we aren't related, and he didn't pay me to type this— I'm just a very happy customer. Thanks Fred. :)
