There're forecasting a big winter storm this weekend. I'm supposed to work tonight but guess what, I'll be staying right here. :D After 25+ years of driving to work in snow storms, this olboy isn't doing it anymore. I'll scratch from work and do knife work this weekend. I heard we could get as much as 20 inches along the Mason-Dixon line where I live. Anybody else live in an area that's going to be affected by this storm? I think it's stretching up into New England. Not sure how far south.

Scott, I live in Carroll County, so we will get some snow. I just received my 1HP motor off eBay and my 9" disc from R Frink, so I can play with my new disc grinder while I watch it snow. What timing!

Sounds good to me Don! Are you coming to the Timonium gunshow?
Scott

We were supposed to have it start last night and go all day. Up to 8" I think, nothing compared to what you guys are supposed to get, but I'm really sick of the ****. So far we got about a 1/10" of freezing rain and its just kind of cloudy. We'll see what happens.

I know what you mean Matt. It can be a pain in the a$$. :grumpy: It has started snowing here as I write this. It's supposed to intensify as the day goes on and by afternoon 2" an hour  Looks like I'll be off tonight. hehehe!
Scott

2" an hour
I suppose you guys are used to gettting big snows up there though. We only get a few big snows a year on average. Generally no more than 3-4" at a clip. So people go into an all out panic when they even start to call for a "big" snow. You should have seen the cluster**** 2" of snow caused wednesday morning. It took me 45 minutes to drive whats normally a 20 minute trip to school. And I had left at 6:30AM before rush hour really starts. Bunch of accidents, and real nice stop and go traffic with idiots whipping in and out at 50mph
I think I'm gonna go make a run for the post office now while its clear and then plan on staying home the rest of the weekend.

Snow? Yup, we're supposed to get between 20 to 30 inchs  . Usually though, the Southern New England weather forcasters (politically correct), are full of Sh!#. But you never know.

Linda and I were going to drive to Boston tonight to see one of our favorite Celtic bands play, but with blizzard conditions forcasted, we will just stay at home.:grumpy:

Just took a ride to to pick up a battery for my lawn tractor, which after removing the mower deck (Chopper) and attaching the snow thrower (Jaws) is ready for this type of event. :D

Matt, we usually get a big snow every couple of years. Two years ago we got whacked in Feb with 18" and high winds. I watched the news and we may end up with some freezing rain mixed in and cut the snow to maybe 12 to 15" which is still alot. I work in a grocery store and these storms kick my a$$ because people buy food like it's doomsday. :grumpy:

Yeah people do the same thing here. Bread and milk, like those are the basic survival essentials
We got 20" with the first big storm this year, had 4 inches of freezing rain mixed with it. I could literally walk ontop of the snow....hell there were places we could drive our 25HP tractor on top of the snow  I'm really hoping we don't get anything close to that again.

We have had no snow this year, and it has only frozen 3 times in Steiner Ranch. It's great, but we get no snoball fights is the problem (but hey, what's paintball for?).
Hah, I would die up there. I have a full blown cold going on, and it hasn't been freezing since the 10th.
Just a question Matt, what do you do during this time with the horeses. Are they boxed in, is the place heated, and how do they get their energy out. The one time one of our (where I ride) horses were sick, after day two, where only me, another person, and Kelly (the instructor and owner) could go in, anytime the horse would hear footsteps, he would winny soooo loud, you could hear him for a mile (quite literally).

I'm home for the rest of the weekend. Started at 3 AM so I could get done.
Wife wants to paint the livingroom, go figure. Just the thing to do in a snow storm? Guess I'll shovel to the shop and start the kerosene jet till the forge heats everything up nice, after I finish painting

Larry, that does sound like something my wife would want to do with me stuck in the house with no escape. I just tell her I've got a customer order to work on. :D I'm sure you'd rather be swinging a hammer more then slinging paint. :D

Think I'll take a nap while she moves all the furnature and gets everything ready. When I get up I'll paint and be done with it. Maybe an hour. then the rest of the time is mine. :D

Here in the North we got about 6" of snow last night but we also had some strong winds so some spots were rather deep. Had to take my Daughter to get her truck back from her Mother and the snow was bumper deep on my little Ranger truck. Went to start my Ranger this morning and every thing works except the starter -- must be ice in one of the safety interlocks on the clutch :grumpy: Been watching the weather forcasts and they are showing some days around 30f next week so that should really clean up the roads and keep the heat bills down. :D To say the least I am looking forward to spring and riding the motorcycle again but then I wake up and remember that could be April and sometimes May  I think I will call my Son and see if I can borrow his big 4 wheeler Dodge truck and I bet I can get into my shop and work on a knife or 2 :D

Yep!!! Like Beaver (T Blade) said 20 to 30 and they said it will be drifting well above that with the 40+mph winds. I went out this morning and stocked up on Buds and Jose' to weather out the storm. I have a bigass Portagee style boiled dinner cooking, so I'll be eatting and drinking like a Fat Cat. HEHEHEH!!!!! :D :D

We turn them out whenever we can in our indoor arena which lets them run a little bit. Mainly just get the 2 weanlings and 2-2 years olds out. The others get ridden when there's time and other than that they have to stay in their stalls. They get a little edgy this time of year but there's nothing we can do about it that we aren't already.
The cold doesn't really bother them, they've grown pretty heavy coats. Guess you probably haven't seen much of that since your in Texas. They're hard to recognize compared to summer with all the hair they've got. I do have one mare who's blood lines seem to run down south, she doesn't get nearly as heavy a coat as the other ones and I have to blanket her when it gets down too cold. I'd leave the blanket on her all the time but the weather changes too fast and I don't like her to stand around sweating with a heavy blanket any better than I like to see her shivering.

It's +11 here with 20 mph north winds and supposed to gust to 50mph. We had freezing rain turn to snow last night. We have an inch or two and it's still snowing. It might get cool here. I put the dogs out for a bit and warmed up my truck, and it's pretty miserable out there. I just finished running an errand for my wife, so now I think I'm just going to veg today. Hey, I was thumbing through a Tac. Knife mag yesterday at the store. In it I saw two of our favorite folks' work pictured in it. Yep, ol' Bruce Bump and Nick. Nice work, fellas, and sincere congratulations!

Well, our, we've got almost all Southern Quarter Horses. The Tenesee Walker has a big shaggy coat, and we had to shave our little fuzzy Welsh Pony, but that's it.
Wow, an indoor arena. Well, I guess that there's a reason that I've never seen one :D .

It's 12:17pm right now, it's 5F, and snowing like mad.

They're calling for up to a foot by midnight, with a possible 2-3 more inches tomorrow. That should shut down most everything.
