WE HAVE A WINNER - Veteran's Day Giveaway

Not an entry, but a congratulations! Great giveaway, right to the point!

I'd also like to nominate a fellow forumite - albeit, not on the traditional forum -- Col Defender.
he's retired Army and both of his sons served in the sandbox, only one of whom made it home.
He's a good guy and I think he would appreciate the knife and the gesture.

After 33 years in the Army most everyone I know is a vet. Here's some shots of places I've seen:

If I ever get the time to digitize the stuff from my early years I'd be pretty happy. The scenery was better...

Thank you, this is a great idea for a giveaway. I'd like to nominate the son of a fellow forum member and friend. Since they've already mentioned their son's service here, I hope it's OK to name them - Pertinux

Wow, Jack-- that's very kind of you! :o I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.

(My oldest son is a 2nd Lt in the USMC, currently at TBS in Quantico, VA. This mother's heart is torn every which way-- the path he's chosen is still sinking in-- but for now he remains stateside and relatively local.)

Thing is, when it comes to knives, we're still basking in the astounding generosity of John Lloyd and VCM3, through whom my son was given a knife in honor of Independence Day a year or so ago.

Also, I read through others' accounts, I feel sure that he himself-- just starting out, "active duty" and not yet a veteran-- would like to see someone else take home this wonderful CSC knife, and hopefully be encouraged the way he was (is!) in receiving the Lloyd.

Thanks again for thinking of us.

R Mac, thank you for your generosity in this giveaway.

P, the kindness is all Randy's :)

VCM3 and John Lloyd - two astoundingly generous fellers - deadly in combination! :) It's touching to read that your lad has been the recipient of their generosity, and that he has chosen to go down the traditional route

Fair point, I'll edit my post

Not an entry but after 21 years and the recipient of John Lloyd and VCM3's generosity in that same 4th of July giveaway just had to comment and say awesome giveaway and thanks to all veterans everywhere

I nominate a co-worker, James Freeze, a former soldier who has spent time laying veterans to rest on funeral details. The honor he's shown to those who have gone before is remarkable.

This idea for a Veteran's Day GAW is very inspired! Thanks for doing it, and I hope you and your wife enjoyed her birthday.

I'd like to nominate my father-in-law, Jack. He served in the 104th Infantry Division (the Timberwolves) in Europe during WW II - Battle of the Bulge, etc.. He never really talks about it, but he used to go to their reunions every couple of years. A couple of years ago, my wife and daughter visited a family in the Netherlands who run a little museum for the Timberwolves who liberated their town. (I also have a couple of knives in my current collection that originally belonged to Jack, who gave them to my wife years ago, and she eventually passed them on to me when I caught the pocket knife bug).

We have a winner, or technically winners! :)
Winning post by Aias
Winning nominee is a former student of his/her and is currently serving in the U.S. Army . Hopefully Aias can at least share his name.

Thank you to all the members who entered. A HUGE THANK YOU to all their nominees and all our country's veterans for their service.
Randy

Well done Randy, and well said. I'm sure that this young man will be thrilled

Wow! The young man's name is Tyler; he was the top cadet in the region while studying with me, wrote fantastic papers in political philosophy, and demonstrated a profound grasp of power.

Thanks so much for this opportunity--I can't wait to hear from him!

Best,
Anthony

Congrats, Anthony, to you and your nominee for winning the GAW!

Thanks, Randy, for sponsoring this Veteran's Day GAW; it was an awesome idea!
