It is with deepest sadness that I inform you that knifemaking legend Al Polkowski finally lost his long battle with various health problems on10FEB11. His wife Linda has asked that I be the point of contact within the community.

Al was a talented man, and a very, very close friend of mine. I am crushed by this news. I also know that he has some unfilled orders with folks. I, along with Linda will do my best to square up with people. If you have some unresolved business with Al, please e-mail me at mercop27@gmail.com, and title the message Al.

God Bless you Al, you grouchy old bastard.- George

I am sorry to hear this.
Condolences to the family.

My very first custom knife was from Al. I had called him from Saudi Arabia back in 1993 after I saw one of his knives in Knives Illustrated which was sent to me. He didn't believe I was calling him from Saudi. I handed the phone of to my Lt. who verified my location. Al and I spoke briefly and I made plans to contact him regarding a knife when I returned. I finally got to meet Al in person in Nov. 1994 at the Meadowlands Knife Show. I introduced myself as the guy who called him from Saudi a year earlier. We hit it off right away and I made my first purchase from him. I bought many knives from him over the years. Some I sold and some I still have. I made it a point of visiting Al at every show.

He will be missed.

Toutes mes condoléance sont adressées a la famille de ce grand nom de la coutellerie.

RIP Mr. Polkowski.

I am so sorry to hear this. Al was a great guy.
It is hard when it goes downhill at the end.

I'm so sad to hear this. I did not know the man, but have seen his work and that was enough to respect him. My condolences go out to his family.

My condolences to Al's family and friends. Rest in peace Al.

:( Very sad news...

The knife that solidified my interest in quality fixed blades is one of the very first custom knives I purchased...a Polkowski CQ4.
I still have it, and I always will.

My sincerest condolences to Mr. Polkowski's family & friends. Rest In Peace, Al.
