Wow, image quoted for good measure. That is one heck of a good looking knife. I find craftsmen intruiging, because unlike many, they get to leave behind a legacy in solid, tangible items that can outlive them in usefulness (please don't take that last part the wrong way, I mean it to be positive).

I can say, my youth is the one thing I treasure most, and I'm getting less youthful by the day.

This is very sad news indeed. Rest in peace, Mr. Polkowski, you've been one of the greatest...

My Dad and I attended Al's service on THUR night. It was good to hear people tell stories about the man. From his kids to friends, they all spoke about Al's Grinch like style. The Navy provided a two member color guard that also played Taps. The family was advised of all the stories and well wishes you all have shared here. I am also working with the family to ensure that Al's work continues. The family, specifically Al's son John is looking for stories and pictures of Al's knives, he is also looking to buy them. If you are considering selling a Polkowski, he would appreciate you giving him first shot. If you have anything to share, please send it to me at mercop27@gmail.com. Thanks- George

Here are a few pics of my knives from Al. All have been and are still being lovingly carried.

And I am looking for a Wasp necker....;)

Let's see more knives from this masterful maker.

I wrote several articles featuring Al over the years and never met a more gracious person or a better fixed blade knifemaker. Al was super talented but rarely veered from the practical/tactical style he typified because thats what got him excited-the fact that people around the world carried HIS knives for the real deal. His collaborations with Bob Kasper are the BEST concealment fixed blades ever developed.
We were friends on facebook and I am sad to see him go but happy he is free at last. Bye Al.
