We may move to Florida.

It's not that they're from here. It's that all the crappy drivers from every other state move down here...when they get old (no offense Carl!). 1+1 = lots of bad drivers on the roads. Although I will say the traffic on the Sun Coast is not near as bad as many other metro areas I've visited or lived in.

You might be on to something there. I didn't notice bad drivers when I visited Ocala. It must be the transplants that are traveling to and from their Origin.

I travel between Charleston,SC and Cleveland,TN frequently. If a car is going 90 and drives within a few feet from your bumper. Chances are there will be a Florida tag on the back of it.

Carl, lets see; no state income tax, easy to get a carry permit, stay north of Ft Lauderdale and you can stay out of mass chaos, though the Key's would probably be a blast on a scooter. Gulf Coast isn't my cup of tea (water is too shallow for proper scuba diving) but the seafood makes up for it. You can canoe the Peace & Kissimme Rivers, Banana river too if you Cape Canaveral interests you. Insurance(car & home owners) may be a bitch but I don't have a Florida reference relative to Maryland. I grew up there but I prefer to see hills and the seasons change. Give it a go:thumbup:

Sir, lived here all of my life (48 years). You'd be 80 miles or so southwest of me. Nice place. Don't worry about the hurricanes. Nothing you can do about it but keep the trees trimmed and a coleman stove in case the power goes out. (Gotta have coffee ). You can carry and defend yourself if necessary. Fishings good, paddelings good. Thunderstorms in the afternoons cool you off in the summertime. Now is the time to pick up a nice house for decent money if you have any. Get a realtor. Don't go it alone.
There are deals to be had on foreclosed properties if you are not in a hurry. Get one with a pool if you can swing it, it will be worth it. I come from a long line of "Crackers" but would love to share my state with fellow knife-knuts. Especially a great story teller such as yourself.

Jeff
