I'll bet my last dollar that the Narayan incident was not the only one in Nepal during the religious holidays. It happens every year.
And, for whatever it might be worth these are not premeditated murders in any sense of the word. They are more like duels and it's a matter of the best man winning. When you enter into one of these situations you know the risks and you take your chances. Narayan was a Bishwakarma, a kami, not a sarki and most kamis not only can make knives but they can handle them pretty well, too. Also, one of the reasons I seldom carried a khukuri on my belt in Nepal. The "code" says you don't attack an unarmed man with your khukuri.
