We need a box thread

Here are some pictures of my 650 and its box. The knife is a 1994.

Might be useful to note that the box in front (with the many little Bucks on it) is one that has been copied by counterfeiters and used to sell a lot of fakes in the past.......probably still doing it.

I think that more fakes have probably been sold with this box than with any other.

These aren't in the greatest shape but they are at least examples.

Redish/Brown, knives from 1991. I have another one the same but the knife is from 1992

Brown woodgrain, FG is from 1992, the regular one from 1993.

Silver contains 1994 N/S 110 with "Buck Knives since 1902" banner etched on blade.

Here's a couple of older LE boxes. One (the bottom) at least is from 2002. I thought that they quit using the triangle logo after 2001 but maybe not. They didn't use it in on the catalogs after that for sure.

Boxes from 2002. I think they started using this style in 2001 but I don't know how long they lasted. Everyone I have has a date stamp from 2002 except for the 307.

There have been quite a few boxes added to this thread since last time I was able to check it out. This is very helpful. Thanks to all of you who posted pictures!!

I have a question about boxes and thought rather than start a new thread, I would post the question here....since it has to do with too many boxes. :)

I have decided I need to start collapsing any boxes that I can. This means the knives will be kept separate which means I need to add another step in my record keeping. I need to add a sticky label to my knives and boxes when I do separate them, so I started researching acid free and lignin free labels.

I found larger labels than I needed. Nothing in the 1/2"x1/2" size. I was almost ready to purchase some, then I happened on the December 2011 BCCI newsletter again and saw 300Bucks excellent article on record keeping. He wrote that he uses the blue painter's tape because it doesn't leave any residue. I think that would work for me....and it would be plenty cheap enough too.

I thought I would ask here and see if there are any other ideas on this before I get to the task of reworking my entire record keeping system.

Any ideas??

Since no one had any ideas that they wanted to post about archival labels for boxes, I took 300Buck's idea of the blue painters tape and marking the flattened one piece boxes, the sheath (low on the beltloop) and the off-side of the main blade with tape that measure about 3/8"x3/4".

This is working good. I stretch out about 8" of the tape on a cutting board and mark my file numbers, then cut the tape with an Exacto knife.

I am freeing up much needed space. It is amazing how much space those boxes take up....especially the Hoodlums!

I think the boxes will be much better preserved because of this and the greatest thing about doing this is that I am finding knives I didn't even no I owned. :)

Nice boxes to all but what I was hoping for when I started this thread was an orderly pictoral account of the progression of boxes used by Buck based on date, oldest to newest.

well you got a good thread going !!!
any information is great even if it is not in time order
my thoughts are
that blades were made and marked for years or doted
but and it is the great ape in the room
blades may be found and used years later..
many time there are designs used later ...
so i think it is possable for there to be many
"correct" boxes for any one type of knife!!
also i would think that some boxes may be forgoten and used later !!!
so that lateness thing...

also I KNOW that many times knives at the stores get put in the wrong box!!!
seen it happen a lot !!!
for what it is worth
buck110 had the best data on early buck knives and boxes .. i have some of it but cant find it any place
also
JOE HOUSER was working on box data at one time a few years ago...
but i dont know were his data went to
there are a few others out there that have box data
or the orgional boxes were they were dealers way back..

be nice if'n dey would post some picts of the knife and box it come in !!!
