I think a contest would be just what the doctor orderd... possibly along the lines of the new (pending) recondo prototype.

Ya, sounds good. It would really get this SOG forum goin'. Mabye a "name the new knife"
contest or best "survival story" with a SOG knife!

Hi Guys,

What a great idea! I'll run this by Spencer and Vicky to see what they think.

What type of contest could you see? We would want to make this interesting. "Naming a knife" or "selecting a number" have already been done, so what else could we consider? Best ad slogan? Best short essay on your favorite SOG (or some variation, like why you want a free knife or best new knife concept)? Maybe a trivia-based contest? Use some imagination.

Also, any suggestions on what the prize should be (besides a free trip to Paris)?

Give me some input and I'll see where this goes.

Well, Let me see....

I was thinking along the lines of a "catch phrase". SOG just reeks of sophistication, as such, an equally cultured tag line sould be necessary. Truth be told I would very much like to see the new "recondo" prototype matched with a poetic designation. However this would lead to a run of the mill "naming contest". Regardless, a contest is where it's at, and as for a prize... how about one of those sexy new recon bowies.

sounds good-our forum is so small we need to get it going. And a prize of a new knife is great!!!!! Especially a SOG!!!!

K man,

And a prize of a new knife is great!!!!! Especially a SOG!!!!

And whose knife would SOG be giving away?

What were you thinking?

And what do you guys mean by this being a "small forum"? And the need to "get this SOG forum goin'"? If it got any bigger, I'd have to work more!

Allright...Let's make some noise!

Ron, as you know SOG makes the best knives in the world. I just dont think that this forum gets the respect it deserves. Now a contest would get a little attention.....

I like the idea of writing about why we need a new knife.
Just my 2 cents worth.

WOW!!! You mean there is a chance we could talk you guys into handing over that Recondo prototype!!!

How about a giveaway at the Blade Show for publicity effect or a Willy Wonka style "Golden Wrapper" SOG that would get the winner a RECONDO PROTOTYPE?????

(You'd never guess that I like the RECONDO PROTOTYPE!)

Hello Ron! Thank-you in advance for offering this contest. Giving away knives is by no means expected by us forumites (I hope not, anyways!) and we feel it is very generous for you to put on a contest.

Here's my input:

I think a short essay type contest would be great! A "your best experience with a SOG knife" is limited to SOG users. I do not have the pleasure of owning a SOG blade, so that would suck for folks like me. It could be a poem or some short story like "What does SOG knives mean to you, as a consumer?"

I bet that would get some great responses! Knives and manufacturers mean different things to different people. We could all benefit to hear such stories (poems, whatever).

As for a prize? A SOG Recondo would be awesome. I would like to ask for a SOG Recon Bowie, but they are expensive! (Hey forumites, how's that for a subtle request!)

Or maybe a SOG folder and your new credit card knife!

I would prefer a Recondo or Recon Bowie or the other "traditional" bowie.

I'll be lookign forward to this contest, whatever it is!! Unless it is a "your favorite experience with a SOG knife" contest!

Well it worked....the topic got my attention.

Perhaps the Forum is quieter than usual because we are playing with our SOG's.

I don't have any ideas for the contest...yet.

Hope you get the "OK" Ron, it should be fun.

Yeh, I agree, this is just the thing to get this forum moving. I check it every once and awhile and it could use something like this. SOG makes some really nice knives, and the have some amazing Customer Service.

I talked to Ron a while ago when I had a problem with my Large JET EDGE. He told me to send it in and also gave me his number and the number of the man who worked in QC. A few weeks after I sent it a gave them a call because I had lost the box and was going to see if I could get a new one sent out with the fixed knife when they sent it. Well, I was told that I would not need a new box because they were sending me a NIB SOG Jet Edge. He also apologized for not having the knife out already and that they were slow for the holiday season and it would be out soon (this was in December) Anyway, the knife came, and its a very nice SOG.

Well, I kinda started to ramble on there, but I think some kind of Contest is in order here. SOG is a great Company and could use the pliability!!! -Sorry for the story-
Thanks,
mmtmatrix

I have to agree that a short essay sounds like a good idea. Only problem is picking out a topic..Oh, and a Recon Bowie or one of the traditional bowies sounds like a pretty good prize for the effort, though a slightly expensive one. Guess that'll be up to the folks at SOG

Hi Guys,

I received word yesterday that the contest is approved by SOG's marketing department. We're just hammering out the details. Give us a week or so. The prize? This isn't official, but how does a prototype Scuba/Demo sound (stamped with something like "SHOT Show 2001/Prototype" on the butt cap) where only about six were made?

Any other input on details (or prize) would be helpful over the next couple of days.

That's the prize??? (or *maybe* the prize?) *gasp* I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that the contest isn't "best experience with my SOG knife" because I don't have one yet! Will *very* soon, though!

Boy, just when I think "there's really nothing out there I *need* to have", I see this!!

WOW!!! That really caught my eyes! And I thought the recondo looked cool....

Hey Ron, how about we have a contest over who can make the biggest puddle of drool? Or how about who can beg and whine the most proficiantly. Thats a sharp "ouch" looking knife.

No feedback needed Ron! What do we have to... I mean, what do I have to do to get that beauty in my arms?????

Ha Ha Crayola you don't qualify for this contest remember. Better hurry up and go buy a Sog before this knife belongs to me. Wicked laughing {by me it's new owner}. Bye now got plans for my knife to work out.
