Spark and I are working in the back to have a new look to the site. Hopefully we will be able to launch the new look on October 2nd, our 1 year aniversary.

Here are a few hints on what we plan to accomplish.

We will have a seemless look throughout the site with simple, text link navigation.

One of my promises a long time ago was to have a calendar of events for you guys to click on to see Gun/Knife shows in your areas plus major other events. That will become a reality on Saturday with the new look. Wait till you see it, it is sweeettttt!

We will condense the main screen you see when you come in here. You can then pick the category of forums you are looking for and then it will open up. This way you do not have to scroll to much and it allows us to add a lot more forums for manufacturers who wish to have them.

The Auction, store, FAQs, Reviews will all be more integrated with this site. Right now you have to go out of the forums to get somewhere else.

I don't want to reveal all the cool the we have in store yet but I do want to here any ideas you all may have.

Keep in mind many of the changes you have seen here have come from your suggestions. Some changes that are software related will take longer to implement or may not be possible.

So let the ideas roll!

PS I will be out of commision tomorrow and possibly for up to a week, depending on surgery, so if you send an email to me I may not be able to respond.

The show calender will have a space for the title of the event, then there will be a space for the event description (which you will see if you click on the event title). They can list whatever they want in the description.

It is not the most original thought ever, but I'd like to see a "links" section. If ever there was a site with awesome potential for varied links to all things knife related it is BF.

Input for links could be taken from all quarters and compiled, categorized, and audited for functionality three or four times a year by its volunteer moderators.

Hey Mike,
From your description you read my mind. Sounds great and good luck with your operation. Dang pesky hemorrhoids.

I'll find out after this post

but when you are taken back to a thread after posting you are appropriately left at the bottom to check that your post made it OK and to see what other posts have been made while one was typing, in this fast moving forum.

It would be better if the tree chart of forums, now at the top, was at the bottom, or in the alternative a button, to open the particular forum back up. This would save a few clicks, or srolling, etc.

I also miss being able to refer back to the thread while typing my post. What happened? As it is if you want to do both you need to open a new window.

Thanks for the attention and I am looking forward to seeing the new look. It sounds like you are adding features and making old ones more efficient. Mike, Good luck on your surgery!

OK, so I was partly wrong, you go back to the top, but most of us want to and/or should see how our post turned out, so we scroll to the bottom. So....we should return to the bottom and have a button at the bottom to go back to the forum we are in.

The gun and knife show calender is an excellent idea. The promoters around here don't seem to do very well with getting the word out about shows.

Spark - I hope that inputting info about shows will not be limited to the promoters. It would be nice if we forum members could add in shows that we know about.

OregonDuck, there is already a BladeForums links page, http://www.bladeforums.com/links/index.html .

Way to go on the update, Mike. Can't wait to see it. Look forward to having you back after the surgery.

Oh yeah, so there is a page of links. I guess that my continually forgetting it exists is indicative of my suggestion. Perhaps it should become more prominent and less of a backwater, so it is not forgotten until it is pointed out again.

It has the potential to be so much more than is currently made of it and better integrated into the general using areas of the site.
