Just for fun I ordered a couple "custom" knives off fleabay. Coming from Canada. I like carbon and these are supposed to be 1095. They look nice in the close ups. Not expecting too much but you never know. I have enjoyed torturing cheap knives before. Some surprised the hell out of me and some made me laugh. We shall see. (insert evil smile here)

Several reports on those or similar in the Good Bad and Ugly Forum.
Not Custom.
Not made in Canada.
Usually found to be imported from Pakistan.

Yes they are from Pakistan. They are shipped to Canada then to the US (or wherever). I have had a few Paki knives as trinkets. Most I couldn't get an edge on the others would barely shave hair. However these two knives take an edge VERY well. Workmanship is pretty damned good. Decent sheath with decent leather. Cut a bunch of cardboard so far. Edge has stood up well. Grinds are crisp and even. 1095 steel (claimed) has a good finish and good but not perfect polish. As far as communication goes The individual QUICKLY and I believe honestly answered my questions. I asked directly where they are made. His answer was by him. He does the heat treat as well. He says his 1095 blades are heat treated 3 times. He has no "brand" nor label. As far as damascus goes I haven't tried one YET. I have had one by Marbles Knives. Edge flaked off like a thin pizza crust. Worst POS I have bought to date. Shipping on these knives took about a week. Pretty good since they still have to come through customs.

if they cost less than $3 each you didn't get ripped off too bad
I kind of figured prejudice would show its face soon enough. Sorry but plenty of back yard "bladesmiths" right here in the good old USA who haven't a clue what they are doing. In his add he says nothing about being made in Canada. I figured MAYBE they could be but doubted it by the price. Time will tell how they stand up. Won't be a long time because I plan on using them or should I say a bit of abusing them to see how soft or brittle they are.

prejudice? more like knowledge and experience. Even if you accidentally got one not made from hubcaps or sewer lids, the people ripping you off with a fake custom knife paid next to nothing for it, 100% profit from rubes who know no better.

I take you live in Pakistan and are involved in how it is all run? Didn't think so. I am sure there are PLENTY of rip offs coming out of this country. Had many knives in the past that were pure junk from Pakistan. With that said I have had knives of American brands that were right on par with the Paki crap. Even the fit and finish of these Americano knives were shit. Give less and charge more is the American way now so I see no reason to bad mouth a particular knife when you know NOTHING about it. We have installled this business model around the world and it comes back full circle. I am simply open to explore other knives. I remember the day knives from the Philippines were frowned upon and now some of them are in demand. Same as Japanese cutlery for quite some time. China has some terrible crap on the market yet it also has some darned good stuff as well. Pakistan is an up and coming player in the world economy. There will always be junk out there. Only way to know for sure is participate. I have looked at some "handmade" knives from Pakistan and they appear to me to be damascus steel from tin can lids. Most of us are fully aware of the crap knives being sold. Don't be in such a rush to dismiss all these knives. It shows an ignorance you may not be aware of sir.

You probably should refrain from politics in GKD. There’s a place for that on Blade Forums and this isn’t the place.

You could go a long way by posting photos of these knives that have earned your praise. Otherwise, you’re raving about the pearly unicorn that craps gold bricks in the shade of your money tree.

We can’t even comment on these awesome knives when we can’t see them. Accusing folks who challenge you of racism isn’t cool to either.

Why not start over with pictures of the knives?

I think the phrase 'once bitten twice shy' may spring to mind. Sub standard articles from dodgy manufacturers ruin it for the genuine makers/articles. I'd rather save my money for a reputable manufacturer and product I know I can rely on, or if there should be a problem, I can get it resolved.
If you want to spend your hard earned on some dubious steel - that's your perogative, but I'd hesitate to defend a notoriously dodgy manufacturing locale.

Oh lordy lord, we're right back here. Wall of text time warning for my post.

Those knives and that maker are very well known on here.

You were treated pretty gently at the start as various folks tried to break the bad news to you.

Even though they all knew where the knives came from there wasn't a whiff of racism or prejudice re Pakistan or knives made.

Just the simple fact that those are low quality costume jewelry chunks of metal.

Here is an important tip for the future. The place or location of manufacture is a point of pride for the Bladesmith. If a person in the UK or Canada or the USA or China or France or Japan Or Australia, or Turkey, or South Africa or Brazil makes a knife that's worth buying they'll be more than happy to tell you about where their forge or facility is located. For most of them you'll need to stop them from talking about their local history.

If a maker hides or lies about the country or origin then just walk away. If there is any doubt there is no doubt. If they want to lie about where they're made to sell they will also lie about the steel, the heat treat, and everything else.

I would if I knew how to post pics directly from my tablet.
Android? Long press on the photo, select view image, copy the url and past into the image option in your reply. Looks like a little landscape.

As long as the url ends in a .jpg ,.png, etc. it'll work fine. You can do it with the photos on the ebay post, no need to even download them.

I don’t understand what’s going on? You ordered a knife from a Canadian guy but he is really from/ in Pakistan??

So you have to physically see all the operations to know if something is junk or not? Wow, experience vs. wisdom I reckon. Also, every knife I've seen from Pakistan was pure junk. Maybe I've just seen a whole bunch of lemons and never happened across that gem...

With that said I have had knives of American brands that were right on par with the Paki crap. Even the fit and finish of these Americano knives were shit.
Which ones? Name them. The blades were as bad?

...I am simply open to explore other knives.
Nothing at all wrong with that. And if you want to take a chance on a Pakistani knife, have at it. But it's something different to attack those who have had their own first hand experiences and shared wisdom of others. Especially when the maker is already known. Try your knives and decide for yourself if you like them.

When was Japanese cutlery shunned? For quite some time? Do tell.

China has some terrible crap on the market yet it also has some darned good stuff as well.
That's true. But see, they are consistently putting higher caliber products out and are gaining a reputation for them. But just because a company like say Reate is making great knives, don't expect everyone to get all excited about MTech or the other gajillion junk knives out of that country. A company needs to distinguish itself through their product to be separated in the discussion of quality. They have to earn it.

This is a bunch of blah, blah that seem contradictory.
