We were all new here once

John here, always loved knives, finally started collecting, I’ve already learned more about knives in a few days here than I picked up in my 48 years of life

Long time lurker. I avoided this place due to its reputation among the former members and banned.
Then i looked into reasons myself and its eye opening what crap bladeforums has tollerated.
Company owners that are not nice people use bladeforums for exposure then think they are bigger than this place, guess they forgot bf helped them be a success. The scientists that egos far eclipse there big brains. Then the small companies that are out played by big companies, set themselves up again with the help of the forum which feels sorry for them, then they leave.
Its always bladeforums that at fault isnt it?
This place has earned my respect and there is so many interesting people and things to learn.
Please dont take the above as insulting

New to this forum, but not forums in general. I wish there was a way to have all forums under a single name/user to show a much clearer picture of that user across all forums but alas. I have been collecting knives for a few years now, just looking to move into the higher end side of it. I'm not opposed to reducing the quantity of blades I have in order to make room for fewer blades of a very high quality. Not that some of mine aren't quite nice already, I suppose..

Anyway, I echo the sentiment above that I have learned more here in a few weeks here than in many years of purely hobbyist status.

Hello knife people. I don't think of my self as a collector. I have accumulated a few knives (40+)over the years and enjoy using them. I found out about this forum through Twitter.

hello i am new to this page and knife making but i already love it im learning how to shape and sharpen with grinders at the moment i dont have an anvil and my forge for heating is very basic. i look forward to talking and
learning with all of you

I don't mean to be preachy, but those of us who have been here awhile know that sometimes newbies don't always receive much in the way of patience and understanding. Sometimes it's easy to jump on those who are new to knives, know less than we do, or simply have different tastes in knives. Sometimes criticism comes a little too easy on internet forums.

Remember that we were all new to knives once, we didn't know anything. And if we were lucky someone with a generous amount of patience and understanding was willing to take the time to teach us, even if it meant pushing their patience and understanding to the limit.

How many of us can say that every knife purchase we made was a smart one. How many of us at some point have bought a knife simply because we thought it was "cool", or "tactical", etc. How many of us have bought knives from questionable companies with silly marketing. I doubt that any here are perfect.

In my humble opinion, this forum should be about more than personal entertainment, it should also be a place to provide guidance to those who are new to this "hobby", even if that means exerting a bit more patience and understanding. After all, how would we want to be treated if we were new here? In the end, we can teach newbies a lot more with patience and understanding than with insults and criticism.

Of course, if you've been here a while then you better have thick skin, because you're fair game ;).

Just my thoughts.

*Edit
Made a thread instead of posting a novel here, lol.

Thank you for this! ^_^ But I do want to mention that I am totally brand new to knives, and that everyone here has been very kind, understanding, informative, helpful and all around more than wonderful. Thank you all for the guidance and help. I feel so at home here, and am feeling more and more like I want to get into this hobby! ^_~ You guys also have made me feel like I know a bit more than jack shit, which I think was just you all being a nice crowd, haha.

Feeling loved and supported!! :]

Hello everybody, i have been ghost reading BF for a while, mostly seeing what people had to say about knives I, myself was interested in, I finally decided to make an appearance. I'm here, because like many of you I've used knives for many many years and wish to be apart of the knife community.

Hello! I’m newly joined, but have been reading for some time. I’m looking forward to learning and contributing.

New to the forum. I have tried several years to identify a knife that I found stuck in a piling offshore. The only marks are WILDES and 181. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, new member here. Long time knife collector/user. This is my first post and just wanted to say hello to all.
