Wearing a blade on your back.

I'm just Gunna jump in and say that behind your back, right above your but position thats been recommended a few times could quite possibly be the worst position for defensive carry ever.

Imagine you carry this way, an altercation occurs, punched/pushing, you slipped.

You find yourself mounted or otherwise underneath your opponent, even from guard this could be tricky, now you have to escape your hips to reach for you knife, your who opponent is on top naturally sees this as an attempt to escape, there one desire is to control so they want to keep you hips flat on the ground and either keep mint and beat you or work some kind of pass to a mount.

Regardless, you have to slide your hips out, reach fir your knife and then get the knife ALL THE WAY AROUND THE SIDE OF !!YOUR OWN BODY!! before you can effectively use the blade.

Now what if, just what if your attacker is on top of you, you slide you hips out just enough to draw the blade BUT THEN before you can make your hand out and around your hips, HE PUSHES YOU BACK DOWN.

BAM! You've stabbed yourself, good defense effort..

I'm going to vote against strong side thigh for position too. Some of the situations in which you would be drawing your knife instead of your pistol is that you are defending an gun grab on your holster or you are surprised and are fending an attack with your strong hand. In both situations your strong hand is already employed. I'd rather have my firearm on my strong side and a secondary weapon on my off side.

Yep, that too. The back carry for defensive use is pretty useless. But I don't ever envision using a knife for self defense except as a fantasy. It just does not compute in real life.

I'm still working on a FEASIBLE sheath design for MOB carry while working fence lines that is EASY to re-sheath. So far all my efforts have been less than satisfactory. Hip carry can get in the way while carrying fence posts or stringing barbed wire, but it's way safer than trying to blind sheath behind your back, regardless of how easy the movies make it out to be.

My preferred self-defense knife remains a dull 45 ACP at about 850 fps.

The part is getting it back into its sheath if your like me and in the military we cant afford to lose are $400 knife. Combat use with a knife is rarely mainly silent kills or if someone falls on top of you when your kicking in doors. I recommend putting on your vest or belt.
