My web special order arrived today and something is, odd. They have humps at the lockup. Shown in the pictures and with my 1988 422 with no hump. The 88 looks like it was laid out on a belt sander at the factory to smooth it all out. Is this something that was missed in a rush to get them off the floor or standard now? The box date on the 422 is 5-18-11, the 426's are 5-23 and 5-24.

That hump is also present on my 486 Bucklite MAX. I figured it was intentional, though I highly prefer the mated surfaces of the 110 or your 1988 Bucklite.

I have many of those models and have not incountered that. Plus, its easily removed. Yet, thats not the issue here. Send it back and Buck will make it right for you. DM

2023 is the future! Well I'm not sending them back, if I decide I don't like them I'll just flatten them myself.

We decided to leave the hump on for these build out runs...

I have at least 1 with the hump on it. Don't care for the hump much, but now that Dave said he was going to pay me $1243.54 for it I like it a lot better :-)

It's a horrible defect. Send them to me, postage prepaid, and I'll dispose of them for you in a proper and safe manner. ;)

I just put mine up for sale as a
"Very Limited Production Golden Sunset Buck 422 with J. Hubbard endorsed custom thumb ramps"
Normally $300, but for you, $200 because I like you.
:)
Doc

Don't like it at all. I have a big hand and the "hump" is right where my thumb rests....

Is there a reason for the hump? As someone else mentioned, it's also present in the Bucklite Max models but it's only obvious when the blade is being opened or closed due to the design of the handle.

This is a feature left over from the fineblank process as you cannot blank a sharp angle easily. On a 110 or 112 this comes off in normal sanding of the back of the knife. On a 422/426, you have to sand with greased belts to avoid melting the plastic and then satin finish it, clean the grease off.. actually comes out to several operations not just a simple sand with 220 etc...

110 Dave: No Blade show for me.. they don't like me to interact with the public ;P

Buck should start selling the hump as optional at extra cost.

They could charge more for it while saving a production step.

Maybe then they could afford to go back to putting real tang stamps on their knives instead of scratching them on.

Just sayin'

;)

Well holy humpback...:eek::eek:

I was just fixin to open a post about the hump and here it is...

Not knowing these humpers were going to be worth hundreds of "Bucks" in the near future, I bought 10 of the 426 orange humpers for gifts. :D:D

Seriously, I have no prob with the hump at all. And was surprised that the nylon sheath is a both vertical/horizontal wear. Wife got into the box so gotta go take inventory.:D

Both my orange and black 422's from the recent web special have it, don't really notice it in using one though.

It will be funny in a few years when someone shows up saying "I have this Buck knife with a weird hump on it...." :)

I bet it wouldn't take long to remove the humps with diamond hones/stones.
