Hey Guys,
A lot of you know me, and have seen my page. I hired a girl my wife works with to re-do my page and it's been a bad experience and now I don't even have a page, she somehow has dropped the ball, and I'm losing money for not having a page. Can you recommend someone who can help me? My Phone cell # is 810)887-7817. PLease call me anytime(before 10PM Michigan time)
THANKS!!!
-M

Just get a web host and do/maintain your own.

Getting your own web host is one thing, writing your own page is another. It can be done (that's how I started) but it's a serious investment of time and tinkering to get things looking right, especially in all browsers.

Let me talk with the wife. She was thinking about doing some pages as a side business. Take a look at mine she did it. Don't have a clue as to cost. Been paying for mine for 25 years.:D

My brother does it for a living full time. Owns his own servers and can host it, build it and provide software for you to upload your own pictures and articles once it is up and running and he is cheap. his e-mail is datacreek@gmail.com and his name is Jody Graves. He works at night so day time before 4:00 its hard to reach him.

I truly do hope you're joking.
That's like saying, "There's no need to make your own handcrafted knife, it can be done, but it's a serious investment of time.
Just go buy somebody's else's".
Uploading photos and typing text to my web site barely takes more time than putting a photo on Photobucket!
I knew absolutely NOTHING about creating a web site and using the tools of my web host had one going in a few days.
Now that it's created, adding and moving things around on it can be done by a child.
And I think it and my domain names cost me about 200 bucks a year.
And the freedom and ability to make whatever changes I want, whenever I want, without soliciting the help of another person and paying them as well, is such an incredible pleasure, the whole thing is very worthwhile.

This stuff has come up before.

You're paying for a cookie cutter website that is essentially put together by a child. There is nothing professional about it. High overhead, using tables, uncompressed images, no formatting, etc. The tools provided by your web host are designed for people who don't know what they're doing. It shows.

The bottom line is you do not need an amazing (or expensive) website. Your site looks fine, great in fact considering the tools and knowledge you have.

I have also never charged for web help ever. I have a job that pays me, this I do for fun and enjoyment. The only costs you're going to see from me are real costs (hosting). Hosting can be had for as little as $3.99 a month (1and1.com).

To directly answer your question, no I am not joking.

I made my own website (though admittadly i never really finished it) and between my hosting and the domain registration it's about 90$ a year. Check out the open source web design project if you want to get some free open source templates that you can modify to your own purpose. http://www.oswd.org/ Mine is based off of one there. I found something that looked like what i wanted, and then edited the css and html till i got something i liked.

Hello,

Let me know if you need web hosting or programming services. I don't do graphics, couldn't put two colors together if it was to save my life, but I do make things work and I have my own server..

Gil.

Check out this tutorial for how to set up one of your own on a semi custom theme designed by my wife as a courtesy to other knifemakers. If you want something quite a bit nicer and more customized, I'd recommend going with Greenbug Graphics like Jason (jkf96a) suggested.

I Got 'er Done Gents, Thanks everyone for the help. And a special thanks to Josh K for doing it.
