Morning Men,

I've been tasked with building a pair of neckers for the Bride and Groom. Both are late 20's and very outdoorsy.
Question is: Is there a specific wood that means something? For example is Oak Everlasting love ? (not that I want to make handles out of oak) I know it sounds corny but the project lead has tasked me with finding this stuff out while I tried passing it off with the "hey I'm just a builder guy YOU tell me what you want on it", It's been put to me to have all this hidden meaning stuff built into each knife:eek:...

I would appreciate any help, and thanks.

I'd lean towards a damascus blade. For when the two metals become one....

I have a damascus ring David Lisch made and it's a great conversation starter. It often comes around to Mokume Gane rings and their symbolism.

I found this with a quick search. Pretty interesting!

Maybe even San Mai blades?

Actually, after reading through that link more, I'm inclined to read up on the subject more! Thanks for the inspiration!:D

Yep, was definitely doing the San Mai thing for sure, that's what started all this when I told her I Married the two steels together....
Thanks for the link, that's what I was looking for!

blood wood
iron wood
purple heart wood

You can make up your own meanings pretty easy with names like that.

If their getting married in a church you might see if the church had any old pews that had been removed from service? IDK just spitballing

You might ask the couple if they have a special place/tree/wood:
A special place or tree where they met/proposed/consummated their love ( The maple woods, the old oak tree, under the spreading chestnut, etc.)
A stabilized piece of driftwood from the beach they walked on when falling in love,
A piece of wood from the old cabin in the woods,
A dead branch from the tree they carved their initials in,
Home made MyCarta from their old camping jeans
.....you get the idea.

Good Stuff, I'll have to task this out and send out the local 'FBI' (Wives in town) to get answers to these questions, this is suppose to be a surprise so we'll see how much useful information I can come up with.

Again thanks to all the posters for the Ideas, this is turning into a Neat/Fun/Inspiring project.
