I picked this one up at the local antique store for a song along with the handle ($10 total). It took some work to fit it as it is a bit of a diamond shape to the eye. I reprofiled the edge using a file and used diamond hones and dia-paste to sharpen. Still needs a bit of work. I also used an angle grinder with a 60grit flap pad to clean the axe surface.

Thanks for looking.

that looks really nice... ive been wanting to get my hands on one of those for awhile now...

good work:)

I like it. I've wondered what it would be like, hanging one of those diamond eyes. You've done a great job with it. And that haft has perfect grain. Where'd you find that?

Thanks all. I'm happy with the way this one came out. The handle is from the same antique store. It's a oldie but was only $4.

looks real good, excellent grain pattern, nice old cruiser, glad you got 'er going again

lucky to find a nice one like her in the local shop, always a kick to find a nice old gem
and bring her back to use.

Any tips on fitting a haft for a diamond eye like that? I plan on doing one today or tomorrow. It's a wedge pattern similar to yours.

Nick. I just kind of followed a diamond pattern using a rasp.

Yeah, I hung mine last night. Took it a little slower than normal to get the feel for it, but it's not that different than a normal eye shape. Are the bits on your axe forge welded on? I took mine out of a vinegar bath yesterday morning and the bit seams on the top and bottom of the head were staring right at me! My first axe of this type of construction.

Don't you just love finding that?

I'll soon be hanging an DB that looks very similar to this one but mine is an old pitted Stiletto. It's need a little bit more work at the bench before it's ready to hang. And I need my beeswax from Amazon to arrive.

I know it's old. Can you post a pic of the seam lines? I think I know what you are talking about.

I'll see if I can't upload a pic next week. I think I may have a head with similar construction in the vin' right now. I'll check on it.
