So it's been just over a week since I got my ZT 0801 in the mail. She broke in nicely. Action is easier and more smooth. Feels great in the hand and sits securely in pocket.(even basketball shorts.) Didn't get to run it through the cardboard gauntlet I thought I would after moving my sister but it did slide through packing tape and packing wrap. There is squeaking when I disengage the lock bar but I assume it's just the insert and the blade tang rubbing. Absolutely happy with my purchase. I'm in no way knocking them but I'm glad I didn't settle on either the Griptilian or the ZT 0566.

Good to hear your thoughts mate. One of the zts I'm very interested in.
Some pics wouldn't hurt either :p

What's the weight on that 801? If it really doesn't drag down basketball shorts, it'd be an awesome summer carry blade.

The specs say 5.8 oz. That's a lot for the basketball shorts I wear, but not a lot in jeans.

The action of mine was great, the weight didn't bother me, but ultimately the blade was too obtuse for my intentions. I sold it. Strongest flipper I've ever owned.

Honestly I think it's worth it. If you get it I think you'll be happy with it. I can't figure out how to post pics from my phone lol. I tried we I got it in the mail.

Not sure on weight but I was carrying a Buck 110 in pocket which bounced around alot and you could definitely feel the weight of the Buck. That I think is near 7oz.

add a drop of tuff glide to the area it is rubbing if it bothers you.

I may in the future but it's not driving me crazy for now lol. I'm wondering since my sharpening skills are lacking to put it nicely, if i couldn't get away with stroping it every week with various compounds. If so can any one recommend a strop and any specific compounds?

ZT 0801 is actually very easy to sharp due to the edge profile, at least easier for me than most other ZTs: 0200 (recurve), 0452 (little to no flat for holding by a clamp), 0620 (tanto), and 0561/0562 (more belly).

That is gorgeous. Who did the custom work on it?

Dude that's such a gorgeous knife. I wouldn't mind maybe in the future anodizing the titanium but for I like it vanilla. That is awesome though.

Would a Spyderco sharp maker be a good investment or could I get away with a strop and some compounds?

I don't have sharpmaker so I can't tell based on my experience but many people on this forum say good things about it, so it must be good. I use a Lansky sharpener, which is cheap but requires minimal skills. The ZT0801 displayed above was sharpened using it and then stropped with DMT diamond paste. The green stropping compound works fine too. A strop and compound are only for buffing/polishing the edge after sharpening is finished - they alone cannot make a dull knife sharp. So sooner or later, you will have to sharp your knife with a sharpener (sharpmaker, Lansky, Wicked Edge, Edge Pro, wetstone, diamond plate, ...).

Congrats on a positive week with that 0801. It's a great knife and one of the best flippers I've ever had.

The easier the better. I'm crap at sharpening and holding the right angles.

The Lansky or KME are both easy to use systems that virtually anyone can operate and get it right.
You might say, they're idiot proof. Ask me how I know. :)

Yea I love it. Really happy with my purchase. Love even just flipping it as I'm sure most others like opening and closing their knives.
