Weekend away with snooty friends - what knives to take?

My wife LOVES this one: combines ugly with scary (and you can throw it):

While I'm normally normally all for being a provocateur I would suggest not doing anything particularly different. Just bring whatever gives you the most joy/use when in the mountains. If it bothers them, oh well not really your problem. If they are accepting that's even better. In a nutshell don't kowtow but don't be obnoxious either.

If you pack something ridiculously over-the-top, just tell them you are honoring the spirit of the human species by bringing an archetype of man's oldest tool.

On the serious side...like hushnel said, take an SAK and go MacGyver.

Whatever blade you bring, be sure to pack a flamethrower to light the BBQ. Tell them it was a gift with strong sentimental value--you never camp without it.
