Hey all. First real chance to post since returning from my weekend camping trip. Its a beatiful trail, that goes for 28 miles around the lake. Its has some nice views of the Texas Hill Country.

For my trip, I take a small REI Lookout pack, a one person tent, and a lightweight fleece bag.

Oh and of course my Bark River TUSK.

The day started out nice and was suppose to drop down to 48 degrees, boy was the weather man wrong, by the time we hit camp, it was 32 degrees. First things first, FIRE. My favorite tinder, PJ cottonballs made that easy.

I prefer to go lightweight, less is more. So I put all the clothes I had on and crawled under the fleece, that was all it took I was good to go.

Yes yes, I know the tents are kinda close, but it was that or hypothermia, that was a chance I was willing to take.

A few more pics

Brian, I healed up nicely. Have one hell of a scar. I'll post a pic soon. Rocky I take the usual ten essentials. You know compass, something to start a fire, lightweight long johns. Some stuff called Moose goo. Its a lightweight homemade food that supplies long lasting energy from a squeeze tube and of course water.

Sweet! I actually love Hill Country its a whole different enviroment than Colorado. Any hogs out there?

Looks like a good time. Is that Somerville? I just got a cheap fleece bag from walmart, how do they work?

I was actually in Georgetown. The fleece bag kept me warm enough. It got down to 32 degrees. The fleece and longjohns were sufficient.

Nice pics CMGRAY, I miss TX...great place to live. I don't miss the fireants though:D

That looks like a great camping trip. I miss solo camping, I haven't done so since I was a bachelor....

Looks like a great trip. I really like seeing the terrain that everybody else gets to play in.

CM, good thing it was a razor sharp Barkie. Nice clean scalpel-like slicing. :D

When I first tried nothing but a fleece sleeping bag liner, then covered myself very loosely with a space blanket (like a mini tent, it just sort of stands on its own), I could not believe how warm I stayed all the way down into temp in 20 deg F.

cmgray. william m.,

Maybe us Central Texas boys ought to try and get together sometime. I live out in Paige ...that is, when I'm not in THIS lovely spot!

Don't forget about me, I'm in College Station/Houston.

Ron that sounds cool. You just make sure you get back safely.

Brian. I was surprised how warm I actually got once I put some more clothes on and just closed the flaps on my little solo tent.
