No word back from Yangdu yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It's still possible somebody might have out sharked me. :D

Dang - 43oz? It is just me or does that not quite sound right for a 3/8" spine thickness and 18" OAL?

That aside, that m43 looks fantastic. I probably would have snagged it for my father had I been on earlier (he's been wanting one for keeping the trees on his property under control)

Nice snag!

I was going to say the same thing, Killa! I want a custom 20" M43 at 3/8", but not if it's going to be pushing more than 45oz! My 20" BC/GRS with 1/2" spine is 48 oz.

You guys are right. The weight can't possibly be 43 oz. I bought (at least I hope I got it) on the basis of length and blade thickness. My current Burra M43 is 17" and weighs in at 27 oz; blade thickness is 5/16". Multiplying 27 by 18/17 (the blade length ratio) and then by 6/5 (the thickness ratio) yields a probable weight of 34 oz for the YBB khuk. That's about two pounds.

Yangdu's scale is spot on but;18"OAL+ 3/8" spine don't =43oz. Me thinks she flipped the 4 & the 3. Unless there is lead under the dahr. My 18" M43 by young Sher at 7/16" spine is right at 34oz.
TIRTHA; might have not made the "fullers/chiras(sp?)" as deep as mine to keep the weight the same at 3/8" as mine is at 7/16". My guess is that HighDesertWalker has a blade there that will perform better than it looks and it looks very good!
Warty looks like BHAKTTA nailed the survival knife(Bushman) with the changes from the prototype

I really hope that is 34 oz and not 43. I would like to have scored this myself and I'm sure there is more, but 43oz is too heavy IMO ;)

I think Yangdu was thinking M43 and a weight of 43 oz just popped out of her head. I do that kind of thing all the time. ;)

What do you guys think for a 20" M43: 3/8" or 5/16" spine? All i have are 1/2" spines and I want something a bit closer to a weapon than a tool.

Sounds good to me at either thickness mggd.

P.S. I've got a 20" Kobra with a thickness if 5/16". It weighs 21 oz and is every inch a weapon. The blade on an M43 is wider and so it would be heavier at that thickness. My estimate would be 34(5/6)(20/18) = 32 oz. For a thickness of 3/8" on a 20" M43 I get a weight of about 38 oz.

Yum, that M43 w/ white metal and dhar wood is gorgeous. Nice snag HighDesertWalker. Dang, didn't know one had to be vigilant even on Sunday to compete for DOTD. I coulda been a contender! That's okay I guess since taking the kids to the park and going for a run was fun too...but I covet, oh yes I do.
