Over the weekend I got to spend some much needed time in the woods with my girls. To those of you who have been to Beckerwest, this may look familiar....

Some of the "extended family" brought along:

BK2, a new 24 about to be put through it's paces, an old Collin's 2 1/2 lb boy's axe that I found at an estate sale for $10 then refinished and re-handled, Stove-tec rocket stove.

And, cool old trenching tool, with matching leather scabbard:

Oldest daughter quickly claimed the 24 for herself:

She loved how easily it went through the wood and how good it felt in her hands. Right now I have the handle cord-wrapped, but I have Izula micarta on order for it....
Then, the fire!

Some old metal table legs driven into the ground made for an impromptu stand for cooking on. One of the many things roasted that day:

The girls and I spent some time building simple bushcraft shelters. The 2 was the champ for this task, flying through branches and mowing down ferns for thatching:

The girls were all set to sleep in it over night, but got totally wigged out by all the flying termites that wanted to join them....

Morning sun breaking through the trees was breathtaking:

Really couldn't have asked for a better weekend--great place to be, wonderful company, tools performed excellently, no one got hurt!

Looks like a great time, thanks for sharing. I have a trenching tool just like that. German surplus, I believe.

German surplus, I believe.

Confirmed. I have a similar one which my father liberated at the end of his service in the late 70's.

Looks like you had a great weekend. Woods time + family time... doesn't get much better than that.

Looks like you guys had a great time! Beautiful scenery. I love the "roast rack"

those german shovels are great. i think i have the exact same one. same year.

should've bought more at $10 each.

That's a seriously badass family day! I like the good mix of skills y'all got in. Pretty cool looking stove too.

Thanks guys! I'm really thankful for the time I get with them :) So, German shovel then....looks like I've got a multi-national operation going on....

Yeah, the stove is bad-ass. It's ceramic lined with a cast-iron top, and the burn chamber is designed to heat efficiently using a minimal amount of fuel. The company is here in Eugene, OR. My wife used to do R&D for Aprovecho Research Center, who helped develop the stove. It's a beast, but as long as you have a base camp set up, it's a great tool.

I have 2 of those trenching tools Ironborn, and I love em too..lol seems to be a theme around here.
That looks like a heckova day out.
