Wegner clip modification?

The only reason that I have not yet ordered a Spyderco Wegner is the tip-up clip. All my other knives are tip-down, I like this configuration and don't want to confuse my subconscious draw.

So, the question:
I have reasonable experience (and access to the neccecary equipment) to drill and tap new holes to position the clip for tip-down carry. Do you think this could be done on this particular knife (is there room to drill, preferably just above the pivot pin and then material for the screws to work)?

The normal clip that you've got on the Wegner won't work for reversing the mounting position (IMHO).

(look at the liner lock, as well as the position of the pivot pin!)

I suggest that you get yourself the clip used on the Military. This should fit over the pivot pin, and you should have enough material left under the mounting holes for secure fastening.

I haven't examined a Wegner, but I have moved the clips on many Benchmades and a few Spydercos. I can point out two potential problems. One is that the Wegner is assembled with pins, and unless you intend to drive them, you won't be disassembling it. This means drilling into a "closed system," where any burrs from you exit holes will be difficult to remove and will be right up under the pivot area as well. Action could suffer enormously. My second concern is that I believe those are steel liners, so they will be spring-treated. Do you want to tap that? It might be do-able for such a short distance, but you could also snap your tap and cause a big mess. I don't recommend just tapping the G-10. Just a couple worries, in case you hadn't thought of them. if you do try, tell us how it turns out.
