I'd been meaning to ask earlier about Weidmannsheil knives since I noticed some in Knife World ad a few issues ago. The Parker catalog I mentioned in the Bulldog post also had some Weidmannsheils in it, hence reminding me to ask about them.

I'd be interested in hearing about them from folks on here about them - quality, history, stories, etc.

Thanks,
Amos

good fit and finish, bu the one I tried to sharpen was hard as a rock, still having som trouble getting it sharp.

I have several, both fixed and folding, all but one stainless. One is the big game knife with spear, saw, and paunch blades. Fixed are Sambar Damascus (integral), and integral forged with tapered tang in Sambar. The big folder is finished inside just as well as the outside (the back springs are carbon) and is very impressive compared to all other knives I have. Also, it has the only saw blade with teeth that are finely sharpened to exact points I have seen (30x magnifier) with no burrs, a rarity from volume makers.

I prefer a blunt edge on a new knife (as do many Europeans from what I have read) realizing that every knife must eventually be resharpened and I may as well do it my way at the start. Factory edges have no importance to me. All of mine are hard, take a very fine edge with very little burr that cuts off cleanly. Mine are in the old brown boxes and so are probably from pre- 1992 (?). Overall, I consider them to be exceptional. If I said any more, it may be viewed as hype. :) Regards, ss.

I have found them to be a good little knife. Sort of a Sunday go to meeting type

Before doing too much research, I bought two on ebay--a damascus with a pearl handle, and a "hobo" knife with ivory handles--which separates into knife and fork--a very unique design. Both have good fit and finish, and they seem to be quality knives. I'm glad I got them. I purchased them to add to my collection, not necessarily for EDC, but I'm sure they would do a fine job.

I had a couple made around 2005. They were distributed by the Bulldog Brand in TN. Super high quality. No blade play. Exceptional fit and finish. This one has the stag medallion and wonderful pink corral handle offset with nickel silver bolsters and pins.
