I was wondering if weight really affects people's decision on carrying a knife. Like the kershaw cryo! All I hear is it's a good knife looks great etc. And then the con of the cryo is the weight!? Yes it has weight to it but I have no problem with mine? Opinions on deciding on a knife and weight gets to you too much?

As long as the knife doesn't excede half a pound, I am cool. Seriously, I carried the 0200 for while and it is half a pound. If I like it I buy it. EDC fixed blades may be more restricted than my folders. Only because I don't want to carry something around in a drop rig :D.

Weight for me is a pretty big factor in what knife I carry. I like lighter knives simply because they're more comfortable to carry. Would I not carry a knife based solely on weight? No, but it plays a big role in that decision.

Yes, the weight of a pocket knife does affect my decision in a purchase. I've been carrying knives for over 15yrs and one of the first things I notice is if it's a really heavy (over 5.5 oz) it really tends to bother me. I think the perfect weight for me is is 4.5oz and below but I will occasionally carry knives over 5 oz but it's not my preference.

I personally like a heavy knife. It feels solid and well built in the hand. If a knife s too light it just feels cheap, and even if it isn't if its its a good knife I dont like it. I havent bought more knifes because they felt like a piece of plastic than I can count I hate this super light knife craze everyone complaining its too heavy whats a few ounces. I would rather have a blade i feel comfortable with.

Anything not heavier than a Buck 110 is good to go. I have carried Buck 110s and the Schrade version for 30 years and have never even noticed the weight. Even now when I have many others to choose from I still pack a 110 in my pocket occasionally.

I should add that I've carried an SMF, ZT301, and a few others that exceeded 5.5oz. I felt like I was packing a gun... I prefer lighter knives also because I tend to wear lighter clothing (i.e. running shorts). If I can forget it's there, then its a keeper for me.

Yea I carried the supertool 300. 9.6oz if I'm not mistaken. What I meant was mostly was why would something like 4oz bother you enough to contemplate on carrying it. This is personal preference for most people I know. But people shouldn't knock a knife's weight and seem to exaggerate it and cause people to stray away from certain knives. 5.5oz And under should not be strain to carry. And if it is too much they can keep a reminder "maybe I'm getting stronger carrying this weight!" :) I know what people mostly wear can affect their decision like dress pants.

Also I am always wearing jeans I mean Always I don't care what the temp or what im doing. I usually appreciate having the little extra protection they offer so weight n that since isn't a big deal. I also like to abuse the hell out of my knives, so I like stout blades. I also never buy a folder with a blade longer that 4 1/2 inches so that would limit the weight a little bit.

Same here, I like weight it make me think I'm holding something quality and strong. There are time when I like a nice lightweight knife, such as wearing a tux,a racing suit and, a camping pack. All other times I'm packing at least a 5.8oz+ folder .

Being too bulky is the only thing that can bother me, weight is always ok.

Consider what is popular for concealed carry pistols and even the lightest ones topped up are all over 10oz.

If you got it attached to your silk boxers or panties while watching Deadliest Warrior then the lighter it is, the better it is.

Yes, I consider weight when buying a folder. I like smaller knives, so I like lighter weights, in the 3 oz range.

I wear scrubs to work and dress pants with some frequency. In either of those knives that are much over 5 oz become noticeable and obnoxious. When I'm wearing jeans, cargo pants or khakis I really don't much notice the weight of a folder.

That's one of the great things about living in the Pacific North West or some where that you get to wear layers of clothing. You can carry heavy knives and not even know it, or you can carry a knife on each of the layers. You could carry like 3 or 4 ZT 0300's at one time.

No not really. I usually wear jeans or dickies work pants with a belt so I don't notice the weight. If I wore light weight dress pants I would consider weight to be a factor.

I like a little heft to my knives although I also appreciate the lightweight ones as well. As long as a knife isn't more than 7oz's or so than it doesn't bother me one bit. I carry everything from a spyderco ladybug to a zt 0550.

For my EDC knives I tend to prefer the most portable one which will accomplish my daily cutting tasks. Most days, that's not much more than opening packages. Since both size and weight factor in to portability, I gravitate towards knives that are small and light enough to forget I'm even carrying. (Recently got the Spyderco Dragonfly and love it.) If I had more intense daily cutting tasks I'd carry something more substantial; and when I go into the woods, comfort and weight isn't usually as much of an issue.
