Weight of a pocket knife?

I'm okay with heavy, I'm not okay when I can't carry it discreetly or access it intuitively. When I carry a folder I go for smooth draw and a narrow closed profile so I can easily access the other things in my pocket and don't have to tear a hole in my pants trying to get the knife out.

I'm easy like Sunday morning and I like my knives that way, too.

For my right front pocket tactical blade i dont like more than 7oz. For my edc utility blade i carry iwb or in the back right pocket i like something under 4oz. And thin like a delica or stretch

I carry my knives mostly in my pocket, anything over 4.5oz starts getting annoying. I prefer EDC's to be under 4oz.

I think if you are overly concerned about weight, you probably watch too much Nutnfancy...

For me it all depends on what you are getting for the weight.

I just traded a hogue ex01 for a zt200. The Hogue at 5.8 was the heaviest folder I had until the zt200 at 8oz. I carried it a good bit without trouble. But it was aluminum and smooth.

That ZT is heavy and fat and abrasive. I'll carry it tomorrow, but I have my doubts.

So for me texture and weight for edc, so far...

Weight doesn't affect whether or not I carry it with me.

I almost always have a backpack/draw-string bag. A heavier knife is carried in the bag, whereas a lighter knife is clipped to my pocket. Same deal with flashlights.

I guess the only trade off for weight in my case is ease-of-access. Not really a big deal in my opinion.

Exactly sir! I stopped watching his videos bcuz he focuses soo dearly on weight! And he kinda influences peoples negativity on weight on some knives

If i were to carry, only one knife,i might go 8-9oz. I have not found "1" knife that could fulfill my needs. I have, for close to 10 years carried 3 knives religiously. so i have to keep each to a minimum weight. My 3 "flyweights", total 7oz. A Vic "Tinker",a Buck 309 "Companion" and a Spyderco Delica 3. My total loadout runs over a lb. If my knives weighed, even a few more oz., i couldn't keep my jeans up. That is "EDC".!!

I use the Buck,90 percent of the time, the Vic 9 percent and the Delica less than 1. I would love a BIGGGGGG Honkin folder, but it would cover less than 1 percent of what i need a knife for. I would be suckin hind teat and scarin hell out of the sissys. regards Henry

When someone says they like the knife but it was too heavy for them, it's based on pure personal preference. When someone says it's too heavy it's not to influence other buyers and 9/10 times won't. Everyone has their opinions and preferences no matter what the topic be.

For some people, weight does matter. For several reasons. What they wear, how they carry, what's most comfortable in the hand, what feels right in the pocket. Does it weigh your pants down? Can you reach the other items in your pockets? Does it feel like there's a brick in your pocket because the knife is very large?

There are several factors that fit in for people. Really it's just what you're comfortable with. I EDC'd a ZT 0560, but for several people that knife is too large and heavy, for me, it's not.

Weight doesn't matter a whole lot to me. But I'm thinking 6oz. and under along with my lighter duty knife works.

Some people prefer a light, (somewhat)small, thinner knife with an overall smaller profile, versus those who love big brick like knives. Personal Preferences. :D

Weight is an important factor for me. A light knife is more comfortable to carry. But it is not the only factor, size and functionality are equally important for me.

Weight is a factor for me, but I don't have any folders I consider too heavy (whereas I have fixed blades that I'd think twice about carrying). I like small and light, which is just as well considering the Draconian UK knife laws. I used to get sent a lot of knives for review years ago, and I think the only folders I got sent that I found too heavy were the bulky SAKS like the Vic Swiss Champ and Wenger Major, but that's as much to do with bulk as weight. I certainly wouldn't think about buying one of the huge folders like the CS Espadas.

some knives are just too heavy and big to carry in the pocket. i cant stand pockets that are so tight you cant even use them. so if a knife makes that pocket sag i wont buy one. i had a zt0300 that i thought was a great value for the money. but its just impossible to carry

The heaviest i carried was the CS Recon1 old version (w/ steel liners) which was about 6oz i think. Then i replaced it with a Delica 4 and a BM mini nitrous which was 2.3oz and 3oz. After a while i got a CS Lawman new version which was 4.5oz and tried carrying it for sometime but eventually went back to the Delica and the BM. now i EDC a spyderco Dragonfly

I can see that you are an enlightened afi bro. Most of the people posting in our knife forums(at home) only see knives as weapons.

Yes, it does.
When you carry multiple blades, you have to consider weight.
As I live in an urban environement and wear a suit I can not go to heavy.
If the knife has a certain weight( size) I carry it in a pouch.
Now that makes room for a light pocket knife.
:) isn't it great to be a knife-nut.

PS: Does it affect my buying? Not to much; that said some heavy stuff won't get much pocket time.

I also tend to carry weightier knives in a pouch. I have an old Schrade-Wostenholm clip-point that I have a leather pouch for, and my Victorinox Hunter and Mauser generally go in nylon pouches, Leatherman too, and even my Buck Titanium gets carried in the pouch it came in.

If I'm wearing a suit I might carry my Spyderco Co-Pilot or Boker Subcom, but more likely just a Vic Classic.

Prefer the feel in hand of beefy folders, but when you're carrying a couple sets of keys, multitool, flashlight, etc... they all join forces with gravity knowing that you're already at the last belt notch. So it's either suspenders or carry a Delica. Just picked up an A.G. Russell Sunfish that weighs in at 10oz (Whale would have been a more appropriate name), but it's balanced well and that to me is the bigger factor than weight alone in use.

yeah bro... i consider knives mostly as tools for cutting and opening packages but it can be a last resort weapon :o we do carry our guns for our primary SD weapon right? ;)

Weight is definitely important to me. I generally never carry anything heavier than 5oz as it' s just uncomfortable to carry.
