Weight?

Is the weight of your EDC gear a big consideration?
When it comes to EDC, yes. Weight is a consideration. Most of my EDC is on my key chain. It's got pliers, a couple screwdrivers, a pry tool, a micro light, a p38 can opener, a small 58mm SAK, and a few other things.

That's a lot of stuff to weigh down the ignition on a vehicle. That's why I have it all on an S shaped carabiner. My keys can be quickly detached from one side of the carabiner so that the full weight of everything isn't dangling from the ignition while I'm driving.

When it comes to the rest of my EDC consideration, it's mostly down to bulk. I don't want my pockets bulging out. Whatever I carry needs to be small and thin. It's that simple.

IMO, the type and fit of clothing are significant factors as well. As previous posters said, a few ounces doesn’t matter much if you already have several pounds of gear. On another note, if I’m wearing lightweight loose-fitting shorts, it isn’t fun lugging around the Cold Steel Spartan. With jeans or 5.11 pants, no problem carrying heavier EDC.

I’ve never liked a lot in my pockets, but it depends on the clothing. Shorts - very light (Bugout, TRM, etc). Jeans - normally a small/medium and a tiny (McBee, Dragonfly). Suit - sleek (Bexar, Kapara).

I hate carrying my phone and leave it in my truck whenever possible.

I’ve started carrying my ASK Atlas with everything. It’s been oddly handy more than I expected.

I used to only carry 1 knife and 1 light, and a watch.

After my open heart surgery and having a LVAD, a heart pump with 2 large batteries on a cord that comes out my stomach, I use a camera sling to hold the batteries. So I have space for more EDC stuff, which is cool.
But the batteries are about 10 lbs, so I try to minimize what else goes in.
I love Ti and CF always so I guess that does help.

My edc items grew slowly over time to fit my bag, until one day i realized how little some things were really needed. Since then I’ve pared down considerably and am glad I did. It wasn’t so much a weight issue, more of a bulk issue.

Weight doesn't bother me too much, as to Where I'm carrying it?

If I'm carrying whatever centerline (11-1, & 5-6 o clock)
It feels more comfortable, ballenced.
It's probably a torque thing?

I hate a lot of stuff in my front pockets.
I picked up a large pouch (from ksf) I feed my belt through. I like it a lot. I keep one of my flashlights, and a benchmade/HK folder with clip removed in it.
It's leather, and stained dark brown. Hopefully it's not too Dorky looking.
Nobody says anything at work about it.

large knives at 11, don't bother me at all....

I don't worry about the weight too much, I'm pretty heavy to start with, but it depends on how the item is carried. A heavy item in the bottom of my pocket is noticeable, but a heavy item on my belt or clipped to my pocket isn't a problem. I can carry a heavy knife or a heavy holster and not worry about it, although when I reached the ZT0200 I exceeded my limit there. I have a Leatherman Charge and it is about the limit of what I want to carry in the bottom of my pocket.

Regarding the feel of a knife- the Spyderco Manix 2 and PM2 are my favorite designs. I always thought the G10 version of the Manix 2 felt like a good work knife, and the lighter PM2 felt like a good EDC knife. Since the LW Manix 2 came out and as a result of watching people try to do blade swaps it seemed that the FRCP scales were very tough so now I've adopted the Manix 2 LW as my work knife to use in my garage workshop. It's lighter than the PM2.

I think I’m in the minority as I prefer my knife to have a little weight to it. I like feeling and knowing that it’s in my pocket where it belongs. Anything too light would just bother me. Chalk it up to OCD.
I agree with you… had a few lighter knives and don’t feel right

There are , of course , exceptions. For instance , lately I’ve been smitten with my 20CV Griptilian and it only weighs 3.9oz. Not a feather weight but a little lighter than what I typically like. But overall , a little more of a substantial weight is what I prefer.

I just recently got my skaha 2 in..sharp,slick but light. on the fence about it! Waited since February for it

Funny you should mention the 0200 - I carried mine, almost exclusively, for over two years. Only changed because I wanted to try some other things. I agree with what you said about heavy knives clipped to a pocket being okay; but sitting loose at the bottom of a pocket is a no-go. I couldn't stand a Buck 112 in my pocket, so a 110 is out off the question.

No. I would rather suffer the pain in my bad back than to be without anything in my EDC which includes a G21, 4 or 5 knives, flashlight, compass, firestarter, small calipers, and other stuff. When I leave the house, I'm usually ready for a societal collapse.
