Weird little knife

Yep, good anvils don't come cheap. I don't know when the next time will be when we go to the Animal Health Supply here in Tulsa but when we do I'll go in and check on their anvils. How big an anvil are you wanting Andy?

The one Kismet linked to would do. I'd love to get something in the 110 or 135# size, but I'd settle for a piece of track at this point. At least temporarily. Problem is that a piece of track shipped here is almost as much as a 110#er on ebay. So its a lose for loosing situation. I need to get off my ass and head out into the woods looking for junk shops. Thats really my only option to get a good deal on one. I appreciate your looking and will pay to ship if I've got to though.

The center knife in this picture is a real beauty, everything from the profile to the colors.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. It's just a simple dagger, but a good one. The blade and crossguard were fashioned from old files, and the handle is French boxwood, unfinished except for getting an occasional rub of mineral oil. I've not gotten my hands on any of that boxwood in a long time, but it's a wood I love for knife handles. It's very hard, dense, and fine grained. Starts out a very pale yellow in color, and "mellows" nicely with age. It makes knife/dagger handles of such quality, that it was mentioned specifically in some military contracts of the middle ages. 'Course they didn't call it boxwood back then, their name for it was "Dudgeon".

How much does it cost to mail leaf spring? That sounds bad. I think if I look I can get it here too. Its BIG for a guy with a two brick forge and a friggin hammer anvil. LOL. If you wanna do me a favor keep your eye peeled for a hardened steel anvil in the 100-135lb range. I can get one off ebay, just haven't done it yet. I'd rather get an old used one with stories to tell. My great grandfather had an anvil, but an ex wife of my Uncle Jerry has it. I have to try to charm it out of her when we go to Mississippi next time. It won't be easy. She didn't like my grandmother, and don't like my mom.

USPS has two fixed priced boxes - about $8 to ship one, anything inside is okay, regardless of weight. the cool postal lady told me they have a guy mailing entire boxes of canvas wrapped pennies, metal bars, all kinds of crap - 20, 30, 40 lbs... $8. just super tape the box to reinforce it (ultra fiber tape), and you're golden.

maybe that 16" of railroad can be yours yet. certainly, if you need it, someone can ship it - or find someone driving by that can help - friend express :)
