Weird lockup on new Spyderco Techno

:)

i was actually in agreement with you about the OPs intentions.

all fan boyness aside, there's definite exaggeration and potentially an agenda here as well.

It's strange, though. The OP is clearly a fan of Spyderco and CRK knives, and owns many liner/frame locks...

I guess, liner/frame locking knives just aren't for him.

Hello again!

I understand that I may have come through as somebody with an "agenda". I guarantee you that it is nonsense!
I love Spyderco, CRK, frame locks and the Taichung Spydercos' general quality. However!!! I am not lying. The Techno blade was wobbling without me applying much pressure at all. By the time I sent it in, you could hold it by the handle, and the blade would wobble if you were to shake the knife. You could hear it and detect the wobble with your touch sense.

But wait!!! You had no issues with your Taiwanese Spidies, I MUST be an evil troll with a NASTY agenda!
Give me a break. Dude, reality is, I'm sharing my personal experience. I've had a few Taichung made knives with Blade play. A small sebenza also.
You want to believe me or not, it doesn't matter one bit. Take it easy, and move on with your life.

If the blade was loose enough in the handle that it would "wobble" if you shook it, did you try tightening the pivot?

:)
Funny. Ifyou did some reading, you'd see that I've already mentioned that I tried toghtenibg the pivot. I've been handling knives, including Spydercos over 7 years now. Aquired my first knife ever, when I was 9.
Of course, for people like you, it's always easier to think that it's all user fault, instead of seeing the fault in your "godly" Taiwanese made product.

no one is claiming that taiwan made spydercos are "godly".

those are the type of statements that make you look like you have an agenda.

that and how defensive you're reacting.

truth be told, you don't have to prove anything to us. i just think there's some major exaggeration going on.

let's not forget you pulled 4 knives into question here.

Whoa razor has over 7 years flicking knives, including spyderco's. I am sure he knows what he was doing. Must be a bad heat treat over in godless Taiwan.:D

I can believe an incident where a techno develops lock rock. Might even believe someones whole Taichung spydie collection developing lock rock. But a brand new Sebenza getting lock rock after a week..... Hell no =)

I've been handling knives, including Spydercos over 7 years now.

what is the relevance of this statement?

i've been involved this hobby for 2 decades but that's not what makes me right and you wrong here.

in 7 years you and your "friend" haven't learned not to baton your folders?

;)

If you did some reading on your OWN post, you said "tinker". That doesn't tell me anything definite. Then you mentioned that by the time you sent it in, that the "wobble" had gotten worse. This would typically indicate that something got looser, hence the question about the pivot tightening. I actually asked that question in earnest, but then your reply seems like you've started to take it personal, so be it. Don't get your panties in a bunch. It was a question.

If you shake a knife and the blade "wobbles", then a) the handle scales aren't tight, in which case tightening the pivot might be in order, or b) there is play between the stop pin and lock face. Is the lock bar all the way to the non-locking side?

I never proclaimed that the Taichung Spydercos were "godly", if you bothered to do some reading. I merely stated the fact that my Taichung Spydercos don't exhibit any problems that you and your friend are having, which also happens to be the majority opinion of anyone who's had these knives.

People like me? and what category, pray tell, are "people like me"? So you've handled knives for 7 years now and got your first knife when you were 9. So that makes you 16? User error? Well, judging from this thread, I wouldn't be surprised.

So, did you tighten the pivot, or just "tinker" with it? Did you try bending the lockbar further in?

Hold on there tiger. I've been handling knives for 11 years now so let's not get all proud:p

And there isn't any fault whatsoever in Taiwanese made Spydercos. They're made by the gods, you know.

Thanks for all the replies, guys!

Bladeforums rock!

I will probably send it in sometime soon, and will let you guys know how it is once I get it back.
Keep in mind, that I don't believe it takes anything away from the knife. I still EDC and use it daily. It is a sweet blade, with great fit and finish, and a terrific blade design!

And even though it might not be overly relevant, I've had a small CRK Sebanza once, that displayed lock rock after the first week of ownership. It was also brand new.

Cheers!

Thank you! I've had sebenzas with play but everyone always tells me I'm the only one.

Lol. Forgot about this thread. Still didn't get my knife back. Not impressed with their customer service, as per my last few Emails with them.

In any case, too many shooter fanboys over here. I honestly remember kindergarden now.
I don't see why everybody's so offended by what I said. You guys need to find better things to invest your time and energy in.

I'll revisit this thread once I get the knife back, for the people who actually care about honest feedback.
Sorry, fanboys. Go beat a dead horse with a stick.
