Weird trend: starting to prefer cheap(er) knives...

I picked up both blade shapes of the Boker CLB Trance and I really like both of them. This is the way I am starting to lean, partially because I think AUS-8 is a great steel, and partially because I like the idea of getting 2 knives for less than 100 bucks.

It seems to me there are a lot more well-made "modern" or "tactical" knives becoming available, what with Spyderco's Byrd line, and Benchmade's Red line, among others. Kershaw has always made good knives at low price points.

I just bought a Byrd Meadowlark in G-10 for my GF's brother. While I was shopping around for the cheapest price on one, I realized that I do... Really need... A G-10 folder with the same footprint as my Delica 4. For less than $25.00 shipped. Plus the finger choil...

...It's just so easy to buy cheap knives!

+1. On some occasions $150

When it take a knife maker weeks or months to make a particular knife, this thought does not make sense to me. How can a knife maker survive and keep a roof over their heads if a a week's or even a month's worth of effort is only worth 100 bucks.

Some handle slabs unworked cost a heck of a lot more than 100 or 150.

I'm with Metric and 5.56; and I've gone thru that pattern so many times with so many interests. Knowing that, I purposely decided that I would not buy a knife that costs more than $60. I've rationalized a few shipping charges, but not the price of a knife.

There are some great knives out there for the money, even customs. If you want a great custom knife, take a look at Blind Horse Knives. I've got a Spyderco Copilot that gets a lot of front pocket carry, as well as a couple of Chad Los Banos designs from Boker. Knives have always been a tool to me and I think I have some of the best, however some folks will always look for something better, it's just human nature.

I think the term "cheap" is misapplied here.

"Inexpensive" is more appropriate.

I don't own any expensive knives (greater than $50 or so), nor do I care to own any. I have a bunch of SAKs (Soldier, Super Tinker, Compact, Midnight Manager, Solo 108mm, Recruit, Cadet), Byrd Meadowlark, Subclaw, Swisstool (got it for $50), Opinel, and a Mora.

I like them all so much that I have trouble choosing one or two to carry!

I just bought a CRKT "Point Guard"(fantastic knife, I know it's made in China) at Big 5 for $19, I'm starting to wonder why I own Emersons,
Spydercos and Benchmades. Maybe I should spend the money
on guns instead....

Macgregor I thought I had helped you seen the light of cheap knives with the ones you traded for:)

Yes actually, that 440c cara cara I got from you stays at my dads house and usually ends up being my edc for the weekend as I go to his house after school on friday.

Plus your mad use of the Finn Bear kind of made me apreciate hard working little knives of the type.
