Weird/Uncommon Locking Mechanisms

I had one of those Edgco knives back in '95. Took it by A. G. Russell's place, and they got a kick out of the quality, or lack thereof.

Neat design, but the stiff backspring used as a lock made closing a bit difficult. I haven't tried any of the newer versions. I'll have to check them out next time I'm in NW Arkansas and can stop by A. G.'s place.

Yeah, the Edgeco version is hard to unlock. I have two of them, the one in the picture is horn and the other is stag. The stag version is made a little better.

The AG Russell version that I have is much easier to unlock. I can unlock it with one hand.
The back spring is designed differently on AG's. Plus it has a titanium frame and it's much slimmer / lighter. It's in my pocket today and I'm wearing dress pants.

Some great knives already posted here, thanks!

Here are a few I could think of to share with a quick pic.

Top: Grant & Gavin Hawk MUDD-500 by ZT (nice dirt/mudd resistant lock design).

Mid: Grant & Gavin Hawk Griplock (while not technically a lock ..., until you grip the knife - then rock solid).

Lower: Blackie Collins Design - Ciabatta by Pro-Tect (very nice way around making an auto legal ... ;-)
Even after reading the instructions on use & deployment, you really need to handle it to appreciate it.
Then read the laws related to auto knives in your jurisdication, to truly appreciate Blackie and his way 'round the laws ;-)

Link to interview I did with Grant Hawk with a Griplock knife I bought from Gavin (his son) at local show:

Correction on that...the Rolling Lock by REKAT.That lock design was used in all of their folders...2nd generation design was the best...1st gen. was awkward to get a grip on to disengage.

Benchmade used that lock later in a couple of knives,, ambush & mini ambush,, not sure if they made others?

1234,,,:)

You're correct Benchmade did dish out a few knives with the Rolling Lock when they acquired the patent.Another one among Benchmade to utilize the Rolling Lock was the HK Enigma. From what Benchmade did with the design one would find it neat...I say it's a very low quality version of REKAT's Rolling Lock.I guess Benchmade didn't want people taking it too seriously and question if it was tougher than the Axis Lock.

Two more came to mind...

*The Hawk Lock by Greg & Gavin Hawk used on the Kershaw R.A.M....quite possibly their slickest design

*Schrade USA Cable Lock knife
