we are having some flooding happening in Newcastle , its a bit of excitement , several towns are evacuating / have been damaged big time ..

but instead of going for a look at the usual stuff , we went to play in the snow instead , the storm cell that dumped the rain and wind on the coast dumped snow inland

mostly it melted when we got to it but here is the pics anyway ..

OK , to the majority of folk here , snow is no big deal , but it kinda is here , there hasnt been any on the ground around these parts for decades , and then it was freaky when it happened according to the locals

for what its worth , the local radio station is keeping things kind of updated at http://abc.net.au/newcastle

sorry , just a situation thats killed between 9 - 11 folk in the flooding and flashflooding so far and some pretty white side effects of the same storms ( STILL going on at the moment evac warnings are being given out ATM ) but no knives ... I reckon it counts as a survival type related situation tho ...

Ignorant time here , for some reason I did not think it snowed in Australia.
Nice looking countryside though :)

Oh and what on earth is that riding on the hood of your car ?? :D

The thing on the bonnet / hood is a leggo lady , I stuck it there for the hell of it

Well seriously , we deal with kids who have some serious issues , it helps make them feel more at ease from the begining .

Yeah, I think this is a bit to strong of a helping hand to get us out of the drought. I live in sydney so im not too effected just cant leave the house for 3 days straight. *mumble* long weekend *mumble* But it did give me a chance to try to start a fire in the rain.
Its definately alot harder than i thought. I could only get the tinder to light - even dry kindling wouldnt light.

I love this age of modern invention

I found that jiffy brand firelighters work well for lighting a fire in the wetseason in the NT even .. with no kindling ( bushfire beat us to the small stuff a week before ) and all the wood thicker than 3 inches and soaked thru

yeah , its cheating , not natural , and so on , but we were camped up waiting for money to come thru before we could hit town and stock up so bush tucker was it and living under the tarp was home for three weeks

I had a packet of them in my grab bag for just such a situation , and they were much appreciated .

Haven't heard much news from other parts but as far as NSW goes it seems around Newcastle / Hunter got the worst of it. All I had to put up with was no phone/cable for 24 hours and the deafening roar of the rain on the shed roof. You know it's loud when you can hear it over the grinder.

Didn't realise we'd had snow but not surprising. Good that we've finally had some rain and in the catchment area for Sydney too from what I heard.

I think its mostly along the Hunter , Maitland is evacuating at the moment , Singleton is preparing , parts of it has allready evacéd from what I understand , the hghway is cut and for once , we are having a break from the roadtrains rumbling thru

Im north of Muswellbrook , with no hassles by comparison

That snow would have been a sight to see, Hope the people in the worst hit areas pull through OK.
