Weird wormholes in my Benchmade M4 Griptilian

Because they use a laser that punches the holes through the steel. Faster and easier for steel identification. Can you tell the difference between 154CM, s30v, D2 and N680 that are unmarked just by looking at them?

Yes. Because i would not be so stupid that i would put them in the same unlabeled box.

Nah, what I meant is that they know a lot more about how they can turn out a good product in their factory with their tooling, employees and workflow. Another manufacturer might do it completely differently. :)

Absolutely.

I obviously do.

Uh huh. And how about when they're sitting in a furnace-- or anywhere else-- in a batch with potentially other blades of different composition... do you heat treat the blades inside a box? What happens if someone moves the box? Or puts another box down? This isn't a small one-man shop where every blade is single-managed from start to finish, there will be dozens, perhaps hundreds, of blades in different stages of completion. Of course, they could halt work on everything except for 154cm blades for a couple days while the 154cm blades are in process, then the next week they do the S30V blades, then the M390 ones... boy, I sure hope their wholesaler is patient when he wants to order a run of one particular steel.

But no problem, I'll stop by the factory on my way home from work Monday and give them the news...

Stop the machinery!
