Weld zones visible using 15n20 alone?

I've always understood (perhaps mistakenly) that the nickel content in 15n20 prohibits carbon migration between layers of pattern weld, but if a billet composed of 15n20 alone was welded up, would decarburization at the weld zone still occur, and more importantly, would it be visible when etched?
Thanks,
James

The amount of nickel slows migration but does not stop it. I haven't stack welded it myself, but saw one done with no visible lines.

From what I was told by Jeff at Voestalpine, you may not have to weld 15N20 together anymore in the near future as they are now set up to roll it at thickness up to 6mm and we will likely see some of that in a few months if the demand is there.

I've welded stacks of it for both knives and outside layer of billets.
I did non-flux welds and could discern no lines.
