Anyone ever use Uncle Al's vertical forge from Riverside machine. Do you think it would be a good choice for a welding forge? I am thinking the 12 inch model.

Thanks

John

Uncle Al's forges are what is used at the ABS school in Washington, AR. Yes, you can weld with them.

I discovered the vertical forge (Don Fogg style) for welding 10 or so years ago.

Best thing going in forge design. Very easy and cheap to build also.

I use the 16" model and it comes to welding temp just fine. Well satisfied. I would add a thermocouple if you get one.

Thanks for the responses. I have just started making pattern welded steel and feel that my venturi forge is just barely reaching the temp needed and not consistantly. I have had to use a coal forge to get the welds and the process is too slow. I am wanting a forge that can get Hot and maintain the temp so I can work efficiently with the very limited time I have. So it sounds like this may be the solution.
