I know what it's like. Thanks for the hard work in getting her back up as soon as possible.

Amen to that! I don't miss it at all, now that it's up and I can have access to it anytime I want. But, when it was down, I tried to log on to it at least 20 times. Good work!

Yeah, I was having serious withdrawals and the substitutes just didn't quite fill the bill. Thanks for getting us back online everyone, I know it buggered up your holiday.

I have to say it, just cannot stop myself: I'm guessing you're running Microsoft servers - maybe this is a good time to step over to a good reliable Linux system. Just a thought. I hate knowing people suffer needlessly. (I know my bias is showing and it could as easily have been some kind of hardware issue.)

We've been running on Linux since 1998. The disk array dissappeared from under the OS and we had some file corruption that caused problems. In the end, the biggest roadblock was a single line return that somehow got inserted into the code.

Having worked as a sysadmin myself, I can just imagine how much trouble it is administering a cumbersome monster like this one (nearly 27,000 members and 2 million posts). At one point, I was administering the server for an online computer game project that had about 4,000 members, of which around 70 would be online simultaneously at any single point in time and that was a right pain in the neck (albeit in part because players would constantly be trying to hack the server to enable themselves to cheat).

I can feel your pain, guys.

It's amazing that one little 0 or 1 can take out the whole works. Glad it's back. I posted a plug for getting folks to pony up a few dollars to keep it running smooth. Hopefully they will realize how lost they are without being able to talk knives :)
