I went for a drive instead ... too dam far to hike for me , 248 km round trip in the car , Im NOT that hardcore ..

anyway , this is the track in , it struck me as weird to be looking at an ancient landscape with a GPS there showing the road ...

along the way , we found brumbies , feral horses , they dont usualy come up here , but since the horse flu thing , the guys from the studs with little to do now are chasing them a lot more , some shooting them because they fear the wild horses will spread horse flu to their stud stock , partly shooting them cos its fun to kill things , and some of the guys are just catching them cos hey , its free horses there for the taking ... clean skins all of them .

We found a clearing where we took a break , these three mares had also been camping there for a few days , maybe a week judging from their dung heaps .

I went for a walk and found some shrooms , and got the obligitory knife shot at the same time .. :) I dont know what the mushroom is , but despite being told by a good number of people its poisonious , I have eaten buckets of them and am still here to write about it , their gills are white , the top is stained purple from the vegetation it grew under , but its usually white , the lyrebirds love them , and its actually rare to get them because the bird raid them all the time .

I messed around some making fuzz sticks while the kids tried to coax the horses up .

then we went home , going home was interesting , a storm was blowing up the valley , we found the clouds .. there is no safety rail , the road is dammed narrow , and the drop is more hundred foot than I want to think about ...

well , thats my saturday anyway ... :)

Thank you

one more pic the kids took

We were in National Park , the Barrington Tops , these are real wild horses , I was doing my best croc dundee act ... well , using all the things I 1/2 remembered about getting close to horses without having them bolt , I think some of it worked ... got some good pics anyway :)

The knife is one I had made , just messing around with it "testing" it , it originates in India .

Im in Australia , the pictures are int he Barrington Tops National Park , near Mt Barrington itself .
I like that park , there are a few planes gone down in it during WWII that still havent been located , its that thick and wild still .

This is somehow so not how I imagine Australia.

One more place that I simply have to visit someday.

Love that knife, btw.

There is a bit of just about every climate here I think , tropical , desert , snow fields and most of the variations in between .

I kinda like it like that , Im not more than a days drive or so from the snow , from the red center , from the mountains and forests , or from the big city , life is pretty good :)

Looks like a really nice place, with the combination of gum trees, grass, and ferns. I wouldn't mind spending some time walking around there.

Yup, and judging from you very cool photo's I do believe your last statement is right on the mark!.

It sure would be way cool to discover and old WWII fighter plane in that place.:cool:

Awesome pics!!! Now I guess I need to go to Australia :-)
You have a beautiful knife also.
I could never own one cuz I'd be too afraid to use it on anything harder than cool whip!

The knife is actually surprisingly tough , its been getting a lot of use , and holds up well , Im liking it more and more .

I dont mind if I mark this one up some , I had to have a bundle made up .. ( one of the hassles of dealing with a commercial maker , you got to meet minimum order quantity )

I think its going to take me my whole lifetime just to see the things I want to in this country , before I go looking around the west of the world and all the things I want to see there :)

Well, keep the pictures coming.

Almost all the scenery pictures posted in this forum are places that I will never have the chance to visit, so I really enjoy shots of all the different locations.

Actually, I have a folder of scenery shots taken from this forum. When I'm working around my apartment listening to tunes, I have the shots displaying as a slide show on my screen.

(My gawd, they get wierd when they get older, don't they?

Doc

Given my finances and spending habbits , I doubt Im going to get out of Aus at all

but I reckon I get to see some of the choicest parts of the globe on this forum , no crowded touristy hell holes , but plenty of open space , nature as it should be , and in the company of people who appreciate a good knife

It doesnt get much better than this , apart from being there in person I guess :)
