I decided 2 months ago that I wanted to make a knife. So I did as much research as I could and then slowly worked on em and doing research during the process. I have a very long ways to go but enjoy it as much as I thought.

I ended up just doing 2 at once. I have quite a few things that I need to fine tune but im sure that will come with patience and practice.
Let me know what yall think of these 2 knives please.
both were made from old files.
my first I gave to my ole man.
that is this one

If that is your first attempt at a knife. You have a very bright future. Nice job!!!!!!!

Looks darned good, especially for your first two!

Welcome to the addiction. Just hand over all your spare time and money now....it'll go easier that way :)

thanks.
ya I have enough hobbies but believe I found another.
you can look at my first 7 posts. there were all "newbie" questions.
I cant wait to do another.
Im intrested in doing a steel knife that looks as if it was knapped like flint.
The gunshop down the road from me has an old buck knife made by David Yellowhorse that is like this and I plan on going and givin that think some serious lookin at.
then Ill try one of those.
And of course Im dying to beat out my own blade.
Anyone In south Florida on here that would not mind an on looker for an hour or 2?

Doggonit, those turned out great! It's fun aint it :)

You make me sick! Just kidding, those are awesome. Definetely way ahead of most makers first attempts. I love the second one. Looks like a really nice skinning knife. The file work to the tip will be great when you choke up on the blade for caping or detail work. Something I'll have to try on a knife sometime.

Thanks for sharing.

I made a knife like that once. It took forever. I wish I had a picture of it. I sent it to my Brother In-Law because he sent me a Flint napped Knife. His looked better ( real stone ). I modeled mine after his.

You knife looks good. Better by far than my first attempts.

Excellent work! You put alot into it. Nice work on the handle and guard, and the file work too.

Very nice! and as Deker said," Welcome to the addiction!" DON'T TRY TO FIGHT IT YOU'RE ALREADY HOOKED!:D I'm certainly no pro but look at your second knife... See how much better it is than your first? Wait til your fifth!!! It gets a lot easier.
Great job,
Matt Doyle

Those are an amazing first effort, dude! They both look good, but the second one (smaller one) is a real eye-catcher. Nice work:thumbup:
