Well, I was mouthing off again........

Hey Doc.......

As usual a great post....I enjoy your stuff because I almost ALWAYS learn something.....
Relaxing the shoulder muscles probably shaves quite a bit of effort out of the equation.......BUT does it solve the blister problem????........;..

Hey nc527....

I remember hearing somebody discussing your method but, my already crummy memory is drawing a blank on this.....Could you post some pics????....I would really appreciate it......I would maybe give it a try........And others might be inspired as well....

All Best....

Here's a link to the distribution map for Common Teasel (also called D. fullonum - may be a small species difference with D. sylvestris, or maybe not).

My all time favourite hand drill is Jerusalem Artichoke (Helianthus tuberosa). I have a post somewhere in BF with successful combinations I've used. Probably can find it, if you're interested.

And moose, Basswood (Tilia americana) is my favourite hearth material.

Doc

Just realized I forgot to include the link to the range map for Teasel (damn alcohol  ). My apologies, here it is. Scroll down a little.

Thanks Ethan. No, doesn't help the blisters. :D

Hi all,

Mistwalker, I think you are write about the Mullien having a bad year. We normally have it over the place. but last year was a bad year for it.
It must have been several states wide for last year. I hope this year is better for it.

Say Doc, have you ever tried golden rod for the hand drill?

Hi Bryan,

Yes, I tried it once and got a coal with it (probably Solidago canadensis). Most of the time, though, the stalks are too small in diameter, at least for me.

Hi Doc, Yea it seems most stalks are on the thin side. Every once in a while will find some with a 3/8" to nearly 1/2" stalk.
The next I find like that I will give it a try. I have used goldenrod in the bow drill. It is a pretty fast coal getter.

Thanks again Doc,

Bryan
